GameStorm was great, btw
Nick and I attended GameStorm here in Portland over the weekend. Its a smallish gaming con that happens around Spring break every year. We had a great time! Here's some highlights: - We ran 2 very fun Yeld games for mixed groups of kids and adults. In mine the players hunted down a group of Elves (Yeld's elves are cats) to rescue their dog, stole all their stuff and smoked all their cigarettes. - We hosted a rambling game design panel where we made everyone promise to design original games instead of just making hacks of 5th edition or pbta stuff. - In a second panel about designing games for kids we had to admit that we didn't have any special insights because kids are just people and like all kinds of different things. So we just repeated the first panel. That worked fine. - Met some really neat indie game designers. - Sold so many Yeld books and expansions. Our table (Pictured above) was nearly empty by Sunday. People we met last year came back to buy more this year, and people we met this year were happy to buy whatever we had. We also nearly sold out of our new game, Rats with Gats!
- We also sold lots of Yeld miniatures. We don't sell many online, but we always sell a bunch at every show. I have no idea how to sell minis online. Its a secret, I guess. - Saw old friends! The best part of local shows is you get to see all these people you've known for 5 or 10 years but you only ever see at shows! - Was invited to come toa few different cons. We brined out on conventions last year after traveling around teh country to Gencon, Orinins and GTS, so I think we'll focus on small local shows for the rest of this year! Overall, Gencon was great for us. If you have a small game and live in the area, I'd urge you to come to the show next year tos how it off!
