Castalgia Episode 1: Pinkerton

We're rebooting our podcast! For the last few months, we've felt like we needed to refocus the podcast into something more specific and tangible, and the result is:

Castalgia: The Garbage Town Nostalgia Podcast. The premise is that one of Garbage Town boys (or a special guest) will bring something (movie, TV show, album, game, etc.) to the table from years past and we talk it out to see how everyone else responds to it. Is what they bring really that good? How accurate is their perspective? Have their personal feelings towards the content changed now that they've revisited it? We'll be exploring these questions AND SO MUCH MORE on Castalgia.

Garbage House Lives!

Josh here. We went dark for the last month or so, but for good reason. 4 of us (Me, David, Sebastien, Keenan) garbage town dudes all moved into a house together in Seattle!

This photo is from our first night together in the new house. It's pretty big, there are 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a garage, and two living areas (one for living, and one for music gear!). So on the first night we had to decide who would get the master bedroom, which came complete with it's own personal bathroom. After much deliberation, we decided to make the decision using the ultimate equalizer, Mario Party 3.

We decided that the choices of rooms would go in the order of our placement in the game. At the last second Sebastien made a deal with the three of us and decided to opt out of the competition completely in return for getting the bedroom downstairs with no competition necessary. We played a 40(!) turn game for the big decision. The game took between 3 and 4 hours to complete, and was by far the most tense video game experience I have ever had. The stakes were so high that there was no fun to be found in this game for me. Every turn, every bowser space, every dice roll was a worth more than mario party was ever meant to be worth. 

As the game progressed, Keenan pulled ahead as a clear leader, with me in 2nd and David and Sebastien lagging far behind. All of our coin counts were in the hundreds so it became a game solely of trying to get to the star spaces first. It was looking pretty grim for me as Keenan picked up his 5th or 6th star. Keenan quickly turned into the villain of the game as his competitive instincts kicked in and he started trash talking all of us as he pulled further and further ahead.

But as often happens with Mario Party, the tables turned quickly in the last five turns. I got an extra star or two through the duel feature that kicks in in the last five turns, and then I pulled a couple risky moves. In the end it paid off big, I pulled ahead of Keenan and ended up winning the grand prize.

So since then we've spent the month of September getting situated in our new place. Now that I'm here I've got big plans for all kinds of cool stuff I wanna make. So hopefully I'll post some more on here soon. Thanks for reading!
