Where’s the sun? 🌞

This is a close view of the soybean field out back. These have a long way to go before harvest. This was shot over an hour after sunrise. Still no sun. 🙁

We got a lot of rain that was needed here. My grass is looking better but the rain beat the hell out of my Coneflowers.

Here is one of the flowers that is still standing this morning. This flower has a bug on it that I haven’t seen before. Anybody know the name of this one? 👆

I need to make a short road trip this morning and a grocery stop. Need to do some mowing when the backyard dries out.

Time to get this show started.

Still thinking about the 2 slugs I met and played with yesterday, pretty sure those interactions have made my entire week and keep bringing absolute joy every time I think about it.

In case anyone wanted to see this adorable little guy also.

Sadly, I forgot to get my camera when I encountered the first slug, that one was I'd say not quite twice this one's size? Still absolutely adorable and made me happy.

I was actually so fuxking excited when I met the first one, that my happiness doubled when later that day I met the second. I've now been looking for them every time I leave my house or going into my house on the off chance I find another one.

Hello hello everyone!

Today I was able to get outside and do a smudge of garden work

Time to do some cleanup

Also I believe the carrot seed has gone as far as it will. So time to pull them!

It's lookin mighty dead out here.

Given it's gonna be monsoon time soon. I'm gonna try a planting method I just learned about! Monsoon planting! It sounds similar to 3 sisters style planting but instead of squash I'm gonna put melon (cause the bastard squash bugs have returned!)

Couple little closeups of the the carrot plants and their umbells/seeds. I plucked the heads off and discarded the rest of the plant, I'll do another post for how I plan to seperate the seeds from the head later :)

Also found some bug frenemies.

Praying mantis's can be beneficial in a garden as they eat a variety of bugs. But they also are opportune eaters, meaning they will eat any bug. I believe the variety we have is the European mantis (though im not 100% sure. I found out there 2,300 different kinds of mantis in the world! That's super exciting!)

If anyone knows or could direct me I'm curious about the mantis below if anyone has info? I Googled and didn't find much (though I'll keep looking) the best I found is perhaps I found a female?

Also plants are tenacious! This armenian cucumbers grown right through the wire of the fence! I broke it apart and gave it to the girls (who are always excited for a garden delight, no matter it's look!)

Wasp (by: Garden of Eve)

This is a Cicada Killer Wasp. My garden is full of them. They are harmless and have only one mission in life which doesn’t involve me, phew. 🦗

I have birds nest fungus in my garden and the "eggs" have latched on to my watermelon, lavender, and hibiscus plants. Most websites I've found say to leave them be, or rake to disrupt the soil, but my garden is really small and crowded. Does anyone have any tips? I want them gone
