First frost tonight. I brought a few tender plants in, harvested all my lemon verbena leaves, and covered some of the other herbs with boxes and blankets.
My tomato vines were still growing like crazy, sprawling everywhere because I never trellised them, but they weren’t producing much edible fruit, so yesterday I pulled them and the remains of the beans out of the hugel bed to close it up for the winter. I need to get it covered with mulch and redo the wood chip path, though, because Omie thinks the bare dirt is an invitation to dig.
The fall gardening is coming along (both the container garden + the plot garden).
Perennial day at the Lair. New Buckeye tree to commemorate our first year. New hibiscus (RL's first planting ever!), new hosta, and even planted a few of the buckeyes fallen from our new tree for luck.
I feel the days getting shorter (and ever so slightly cooler). I found a tiny decoration pumpkin I threw out in the woods last fall. I dried like a gourd (makes since since they are gourds) so I busted the seeds out and planted them. I didnt think they're sprout but they did so now I have to transplant a bunch of pumpkins. I bought tiny violas so I can save seeds and enjoy them in salads. The blue lake beans are FINALLY producing. And last but not least, we got a frame for a second greenhouse! It was a frame for a carport that you stretch tarps over, it was going in the trash and the nice people gave it to us. Reduce, reuse, recycle!
Quite the harvest today. 18lbs of cabbage, one adorable tiny watermelon, rainbow quinoa, 1.5lbs of Dino kale, 1.5lbs of purple kale and a little over a pound of romaine. #growyourownfood #garden2016 #wholehealth #wholehealthhomestead #vegansofig #whatveganseat #winecountry #oregon #harvest #plantstrong #plantbased
Harvest! #garden2016. #gardeningisfun #growyourownfood #growingfood #habanero #tomatoes
Whats happening in the garden currently. Loofa gourds are blooming like crazy ( theres three baby gourds growing right now). The two volunteer squash are a butternut and the one with the white bloom on the bottom (unidentified). Black susans are everywhere and I am not complaining. Morning glories are my enemy right now. My beautiful enemy.
