When I lived in NY and was working at a gallery full time I seldom had time to get out to exhibitions, they simply weren’t open when I had time off. It’s one of the trade offs of being deeply interested in art, wanting to be right at the source, you can’t see the breadth of the sea from your dinghy. Not to mention the burnout. It’s obviously not true but it always seemed like when I did have time to go see shows, every time I walked past @fredericksandfreiser they had a Lamar Peterson show up. So I had to laugh when I walked down 24th and saw these paintings in the window. Because, of course, why wouldn’t they… I’m not complaining at all about this weird coincidence, I can’t complain, I really like his paintings. In some works on paper in the back you can see his fully realized caricature trying to get by in a paint by numbers world. Always worth a look. #gardeningwhileblack (at Fredericks & Freiser) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmbn8iQLNHA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
