I do plan to do a full review including maintenance, but to sum up I absolutely love the Gardyn. It was a great investment, especially as someone in an apartment with no land.
💬How do you start your weekend mornings? | I prefer my weekend mornings nice and slow. I like to stay in bed for at least a chapter or two of my current read while Alice snuggles with me under the blankets. At some point, she'll decide she is hungry and meow as if she hasn't eaten in YEARS. After Alice gets some wet food, we check on our plants together. I love opening the blinds so that the crystals we hung above the Gardyn sparkle. Having crystals, vegetables, and running water in the living room has been so uplifting. I also like that having culinary herbs in the Gardyn means that I can free up my AeroGarden for some medicinal varieties. . P.S. Yes, that is a porg. His name is Porgy, and he is currently housing some lavender seeds that will hopefully yield some fragrant flowers for my boyfriend's desk. . . . #booklover #booknerd #bookish #bookstagrammer #catstagram #catlover #catsandbooks #catsofinstagram #gardyn #mygardyn #indoorgarden #indoorplants #hydroponics #porg #porgsofinstagram #greenwitch #vegetablegarden #urbangarden #urbangardening #catsandplants https://www.instagram.com/p/CNilGHaLBDZ/?igshid=x776cw0yi79h
We celebrated a birthday at our house this week and I made a cake out of watermelon using kiwi 🥝 And strawberries for decoration. It was so simple and easy and something that I could actually eat. But I noticed something really interesting when eating a slice of all these three things together. The watermelon was from Costco and shipped from who knows how far away (especially this time of year) and the Kiwi came from Whole Foods and again, shipped from so far away. But the strawberries were grown in the Gardyn, and wow! The taste comparison was really something! These are probably the most flavorful Strawberries I have ever eaten! And the flavors of the Kiwi and the watermelon were muted in comparison to the burst of flavor coming from the strawberries! It reminded me just how much nutrition our produce loses when it has to travel to get to us. My daughter and I sat there and had a conversation about it. She told me that there’s no way she can ever go back to eating lettuce or spinach from the store. She loves lettuce and all green things but now that we have The ability to grow our own greens year round, we just can’t go back to eating food that has lost so much nutrients by being shipped from so far away. And when you consider that most produce loses 30% of its nutrients just three days after being picked it makes sense that we should notice this dramatic change in taste! Just something I wanted to share because we were overcome by this realization today. hehehe some cute Gardyn and Note interactions from twitter. Gardyn is mute and Note is blind so it’s a bit of a struggle to communicate. But, they figured out a way! Note feels Gardyn’s hand as he spells out words. It takes a while but it works.
New round of sprouts!
Featuring cucumber, marigold, basil, eggplant and peas!
It’s been too long since I posted, but ya know, life. Currently have some tomatoes coming in, the eggplant is blooming and the petunias and calendula are still going strong. Winter? Pft.
Hydroponically grown petunia!
I do wonder if they are that pale naturally, or if being in 100% artificial light effects that
