Gareth has never felt about anyone the way he feels about you

From the moment you met he just couldn’t stop himself from becoming so lovesick it was borderline annoying to the rest of the guys

He’d lose his train of thought in history class and doodle your initials in little hearts all over his notebook

He’d fuck up his rolls in Hellfire Club, imagining how fun it would be to teach you how to play with him

And as much as he knew the guys couldn’t stand it, he just couldn’t help but mention you at any given chance he had

Eddie would notice Gareth barely picking at the lunch on his tray, asking if he was alright, only for Gareth to rave about how he was coming over after school to cook dinner with you and how you always made enough to send him home with leftovers

Grant would constantly question why Gareth would turn down his offers to go to the movies with him and Gareth would tell him he promised to wait to go with you as soon as you saw the trailers for it

Jeff would tease him about how he always tried to rush band practice on Saturdays, and Gareth would try so hard to keep his excitement from showing when he’d tell Jeff and the other guys that he was expecting you over soon

Not to mention all the times he just couldn’t help himself from showing you off whenever he could

Keeping your picture on his drum kit at gigs for good luck

He adores you and will make sure it’s known no matter what

And sometimes he just can’t help himself from talking about the more intimate details of your relationship

Though he knows not to take it too far

He’d be at a sesh over at Eddies place and once it was his turn to talk about the best kisser he’s ever made out with he couldn’t stop talking about how soft your lips were and how sweet you tasted

They’d be leaving a late night showing of whatever cheesy gorefest movie that was at the theater and he’d be so giddy to take you to see it next time so you can nuzzle into him during the scary bits

Though he may have accidentally turned his brain off one or two times when he was talking about your date nights and mentioned the sexy two piece you had on for him later in the night

He just can’t help it, you’re his dream girl and he needs to make sure everyone around him knows he’s with an absolute goddess

Random Gareth headcanons because why not

He can speak Welsh (because I googled “what kind of name is Gareth” and discovered that both Gareth and Gwydion are Welsh names, and kids in small white midwestern towns in the 80s did not typically get “ethnic” names, it would’ve been Garrett or Gary fersure so I decided solely based on that that his family is hardcore Welsh)

He has occasionally convinced bullies that he actually put a hex on them, by telling them “have a nice day” or “don’t forget your lunch money” in Welsh. None of them have ever caught on.

He likes weird food. Dude puts peanut butter on strawberry pop-tarts. He steals his grandpa’s Necco wafers and sneakily eats them in class. Every year he tries the weirdest fried-on-a-stick food the county fair is selling.

Also if anyone dares him to try a weird food combination he will, without hesitation. Even though a few times he’s had to run away and get sick afterward he still can’t resist a weird food dare.

His dad listens to opera, and he makes up his own random words and sings along. He can hit most of the high notes too.

He never quite fit in with any group at school until he got to high school and met Eddie. A couple years later when Eddie met Dustin, Mike, and Lucas, Gareth was ridiculously jealous of them until he realized that Eddie wasn’t going to drop him just because he had some new sheepies to look after.

When he first started hanging out with Eddie, he copied everything about him (which Jeff and Grant found hilarious, and still good-naturedly tease him about).

He’s definitely the weirdo of Corroded Coffin. Not in a bad way, he’s just… weird, sometimes. Like he’ll turn to Grant out of nowhere and say something like “Nights in White Satin sounds like a love song that has a stomach ache” or he’ll tell Jeff “you smell all fluffy and purple today” and then just go about his business like he didn’t just drop some absolute nonsense that left his friends completely bewildered.

A year before Robin meets Steve at Starcourt and Scoops Ahoy, Robin’s dad marries Gareth’s mom. Making them step-siblings. They get along despite the differences in music taste and that Robin’s a different type of nerd compared to Gareth.

The day Robin finds out Steve is her co-worker, she complains about it to Gareth and they bitch and gossip about “King Steve” until they’re called for dinner. They keep up that routine even after Robin admits Steve isn’t that terrible and kinda nice, actually. Gareth doesn’t quite believe her and he never calls her out on it because despite living in the same house for a year now, they aren’t close enough to call each other out on things like crushes.

It isn’t until after Starcourt burns to the ground that Gareth actually meets Steve officially. He hates himself, but he ends up getting along with the guy. Gareth sees first hand how codependent and attached Robin and Steve are. Like, attached at the hip, can finish each other’s sentences, and just know what the other is feeling type of attached.

He’s heard Robin screaming at night, woke up to her scrambling to the phone and then crying into the phone and then next morning, finds Steve and her wrapped up together on the couch. Luckily their parents are ok with it, had told him that “they went through something traumatic together, Gareth.” That was that, and afterwards Steve was in his life near daily.

It wasn’t until a few weeks of watching them together and also actually participating in conversation with Steve, that Gareth actually asks if they were dating. He gets his answer by twin gagging and then laughter.

“Platonic soulmates, with a captain P!” Robin had shouted out while Steve was too busy laughing that he nearly fall over.

This came to be because of this post I made. Thought it could make it easier to incorporate Gareth into the story line, or get steddie to meet faster lol either way. Anyway, I wanted something on a happier note been reading angsty fics (and working on my own fic lol)

oh shit yeah i can! imma do headcanons again because it’s easier for me to get all my ideas out (and this is gender neutral!)

so this dude definitely had a crush on you for at least six months before he even thought about telling you, and then it might’ve been eight to ten months before he confessed

bro is nervous and does not care about the long haul

he also didn't tell anyone else before either? like, Eddie and Jeff might've had suspicions but they weren't sure enough (also if Eddie knew he'd totally make it a thing in the campaign, don't @ me)

when he's around you he might seem cool calm and collected but on the inside he's fuckin panicking

he won't stare at you, but he'll take complete notice of everything you're doing, make himself stop looking at you, and then just stare off into blank space thinking "oh my fucking god"

totally does simple things that are generally nice in an attempt to make a move, but he gets too nervous and just leaves them like that

like giving you a ride home, or getting you a can of soda from the vending machine, or randomly bringing in some candy

also helps your character out in DnD probably more than he should, but also, like, he does a really good job at defending the reason why he's healing your character first and not anyone else

this dude learns how to bullshit faster than a 9th grader doing a Great Gatsby essay

but honestly he's so sweet and nervous about it that when the time finally comes and he can't bear it anymore it's the most genuine, sincere shit

he eventually confesses after one night of DnD that had gone pretty rough, and it was your turn to drive

you drop everyone else off first because their houses are closer to the school, and then on your way to take Gareth home you ask him if he wants to smoke

obviously he says yes, so you pull into a little spot in the woods

y'all leave your car ridding to play music, and you sit on the hood of the car while Gareth rolls a quick joint and when he looks back up at you to light up, he sees how your eyes and hair and skin look in the moonlight and he just can't help himself

"you're so pretty," he tells you, and you choke on your spit

"what?" you say, half laughing because you have no idea if he's being serious or not

"in the moonlight. you look..." his eyes scan your face, and he can't find the words. it's that look on his face that lets you know he's being completely serious. "y/n, I'm sorry if this is a bad time, but, uh, I really, really like you. I'm pretty sure I'm in love with you, honestly."

"shit, dude, how long have you, uh felt like that?"

"'m not sure, exactly, but, I wanna say around eight months, something like that."

"oh my god, Gareth, why would you wait that long?"

"because the timing was never right or when it was I got too nervous and backed out or...I don't know. i was scared of looking like an idiot in front of everyone and then losing you."

"Gareth, you're not gonna lose me. I can promise you that."

"Can I touch you?"

you nod, and since he's moved closer and closer to you this whole time, you pull him in by his shoulders, so that he's standing between your legs while you sit on the hood of your car

"I like you too, Gareth. I guess I should've made that a little more evident, huh?"

"would've been nice."

he looks between your lips and your eyes, silently asking for permission, and you give it to him with a shallow nod

and, straight up, y'all make out until one of you recognizes the song on the radio and asks "is this____?"

this time, it's you, and you go, "oh shit, is Dio playing?"

and Gareth just laughs and remembers why he's in love with you

and then y'all remember that there's a straight up joint on the hood of the car and remember to smoke it
