One nice thing about my job is that whenever we have an errand to run - to the bank, post office, office supplies, coffee, lunch - it’s all within walking distance! I can get some fresh air and clear my head and enjoy Main Street. Yesterday I stepped inside the post office for the first time since the late 90s. Recently I’ve begun a new job in my old hometown of Garrison and I’m really enjoying it so far! It’s nice to work right on Main Street with great people. We had the most wonderful warm time at Dickens Fest this year! It got up to 45 degrees today - perfect for strolling the streets of Garrison and enjoying all Dickens Fest has to offer. And it’s on again next weekend so don’t forget to go! It’s Christmas central 🎄 I grew up in Garrison right around the time they started Dickens Fest, so to me it’s not Christmas if I don’t get to go to Dickens 😊 Garrison is the most special little town I’ve ever lived in or heard of. Everyone bands together to make Dickens Fest the best it can be. The town is truly full of incredible people! This is “my” swing where mom and I sat when I was really little. I remember being too little to make this thing move, so mom had to. It used to be tucked between a huge row of giant lilac bushes with decorative pavers under it that moss grew across. I’m so glad that when they improved the park, they kept the swing. They moved it a bit, but they kept it. That’s what matters to me. The decorative pavers are long gone. But I can still sit down on the cold metal and hear the familiar creek of the thing moving. I was really missing mom when I stopped here to sit and reflect a bit. 🍂 spot Murph and husband 🍂 It was such a nice day we went up to my old hometown so husband could play the frisbee golf course there. The park is so much different than when I was little. It’s totally cleared out with a trail through it - and although it’s beautiful, I do miss how wild and overgrown it was when I was a kid. It was a mysterious forest to me! A swampy treed place where older kids I didn’t know went to make forts. And if I was lucky, mom would take us through and we found the forts. I recall a giant teepee structure and a cave-like fort tucked right into the trees. It was magical. I felt like I had discovered another world. What an adventure! Now it’s all nice and modern - but I miss the old park.
