walshvadi and garvadi cathedrals inspired by @sunbleachedreams' gifset
it's an ongoing thing.
emery and yolanda are currently in the off mode of their on-again, off-again .... situation. as if there were a word that could possibly encapsulate have been hooking up since emery was yolanda's assigned med school mentor, and still are (sometimes) (well, really most of the time) even though it's been half a decade, several degrees, and many salary raises later.
the more immediate problem is, of course, the med student. the two of them toying with the med students on rotation isn't new, much to the dismay of robby (which is probably part of why they do it). it's fun and easy, helps pass the time for two adrenaline seekers who aren't always particularly fond of the cases they're given. usually, though, their tastes don't overlap.
typically, yolanda finds someone strong-willed and even sharper-tongued, more often than not, the gunner of the group (there's always one of them). she, not unlike a cat playing with a mouse, pulls them in with what feels like specialized treatment, entices them by actually calling them by name while practically ignoring everyone else, giving them priority on the more interesting cases, offering challenges combined with cheeky nods to make them feel special. emery, on the other hand, tends to find the lost lambs of the group, the softer souls who choose this path for heart and not head. she's callous and strategic, pushing them to find their own fire, thrilling in watching them harden while also reveling in being the one to do it. she likes to fly the plane, of course. she likes to be the captain of the ship, the voice of reason they turn to, spoon-feeding them challenges, but always there to be the savior. she gives the attention they characteristically so deeply desire (although only in small doses, just enough to keep them desperate; it's more fun that way),
the problem, though, is that victoria javadi is all of those things at the same time and more.
she's oh so soft; emery spots her watery eyes from across the department floor, sees her wringing her hands together and pulling her sleeves down to ball up her fists before she walks into certain patient rooms, all but verbally psyching herself up. she watches her follow mckay, robby, baran, anyone with any kind of authority really, around like a lost sheep. and so it's all too easy for emery to slot herself in, to make herself the sun to victoria's proverbial sunflower. victoria just bends so easily to even the slightest bit of praise, looks up at emery from the bedside with those giant, round eyes after even the simplest of compliments. emery offers cold commentary, but accented with the slightest good work victoria just to watch victoria's posture instantly straighten, for her expression to instantly brighten; it's almost impossible for emery not to want to play with her food.
but victoria's also stubborn and sarcastic; when yolanda walks into cases that victoria is on, she gets more than just the doe-eyed, pouted lips that emery seems to enjoy. unexpectedly (to yolanda anyways), victoria bites back, disagrees with directives, or at least doesn't blindly follow along as yolanda had expected of the lost little lamb that had first stumbled into the department. she reminds yolanda of her past self in some ways, not as ostentatious but also brave and instantly ready to prove doubting minds wrong. she's so eager in every way to correct when yolanda makes a comment, but also so much sharper than yolanda had initially expected, making sassy comments under her breath, and eventually yolanda can't stifle the chuckle that escapes her. she's so pliant, and yet it comes with an edge that victoria's still learning to wield, so of course yolanda wants to capitalize on that.
all that doesn't solve the other issue at hand: victoria's not just anyone. and eileen is not exactly an absent parent. they can't just bat her between them like they usually do with the few med students who fit both of their tastes; victoria is expressly, although unspokenly, off limits. which, of course, makes the game all the more fun.
nothing is obvious, or overt. this cannot hit the gossip circles, which is made all the more difficult by the fact that while eileen shamsi doesn't listen to drama around the hospital, it's a well-known fact that raymond javadi does.
but if emery has victoria scrub in on an extra surgery here or there, dropping a few more compliments than is entirely necessary while resting a hand on her lower back or if yolanda finds herself peering over victoria's shoulder a bit more carefully than she technically needs to so that she's just a bit too close, and asks more questions than she normally would specifically directed at victoria--well, that's not anything for betting boards now, is it?
now, victoria javadi, in all her wide-eyed, deer-in-the-headlights glory, leaving for the car park with a grinning emery walsh on her right and a smirking yolanda garcia on her left--that's cause for gossip.
having perverted walshxjavadixgarcia thoughts…😵💫
