Dear Gus & Baby #2,
We had our first extended family get-together since our January Birthday Lunch last year. Everyone but the kids and Uncle Chris have gotten their vaccinations -- he's had the opportunity to get it, but has chosen not to for reasons I don't know he's getting his first shot this week. The kids played on the tree swing and in the pool. Nana and Aunt Connie made a pot of gumbo. Beverly made a chocolate raspberry cheesecake.
It felt good to all be together again. We had to leave so I could hit the road to Frisco, and I hated having to tell Gus to get out of the pool, but before we left, everyone decided we should have lunch at Nana's house every second Sunday of the month.

Dear Gus,
Your parade of visitors continued tonight with Beverly and Gary, who also brought us chicken salad and potato soup for dinner. Had I any idea of how much food you would net us, I would have begun to push for you two years ago.

Dear Gus & Magnus,
We had lunch at Nana's house today because Beverly & Gary were in town. You two spent some time in the pool. This is the only photo I took today. Gary had some kind of wound on his head that Audra doctored.

Dear Gus & Magnus,
The Darwins moved to Northwest Arkansas into a rental earlier this year, but three weeks ago they moved into a house they bought on Missy's street. When we needed a location for a video shoot in the morning, they were happy to oblige, so Garver took them to dinner tonight. I enjoyed catching up with them. It was also a little strange because Beverly & Gary were always such good representatives of Hillcrest, but now they aren't there. I guess it's up to us to be good representatives of Hillcrest now.

Dear Gus & Magnus,
On our family walk this morning, we noticed Uncle Chris's vehicle at the Darwins', so we stopped in to say hello and ask about their recent trip to California. When we made it back to Ridgeway, the Grummers were on the porch, home with their new baby, Martin, who's clocking in at around five pounds.
We came home and got back to work, playing what Mom called "Rug Jenga" in which I move rugs from one room to another for a while at her direction. We also put the laundry room back together so we could wash clothes and Nene will have a bed when she comes to stay with us when Magnus is born. We also put Gus's room back together. And we rearranged the living room. This is two days in a row that I went to bed completely spent. But it feels good to expend energy while getting things done around the house.
Dad.

Dear Gus & Baby #2,
Mom worked today, so Nene, Gus, Suki, and I went on a family walk -- despite the cold. As we turned from Walnut onto I Street, Beverly saw us and called out. We went inside for a short bit to sit in front of the fireplace, but we kept our masks on. It was a good visit with her and Gary. Afterward, we walked back to our house, said goodbye to Nene, and then Gus and I pulled carpet upstairs until Mom got home.

348: Gary Darwin's Natural Selections
Gary Darwin has been in Las Vegas for over six decades when he first moved there in his teens. Since then, Gary has kept about every magic item he could put his hands on over the years. Some might call him a hoarder while others might call him a shrewd collector. Gary started his magic club 51 years ago and it's still going strong. He also talks about the evolution of Las Vegas from the days when the Mafia ran the town to when he (as a youngster) was a "manipulation magician" all the way to this day when several magicians rule the Strip. Gary has a mental repository of one-liners that he reels off with ease throughout our chat.
