9. Team member with self-animated face paint that depicts a moving face. But not that team member's face. [11 points]
this is awesome. also, enjoy your nightmares.
HOT ROLLS! redux...
i'm starting to get the feeling that i may be able to piece together the 2013 Scav Hunt road trip from previous years' lists. i had already found City Museum on the 2001 Scav Hunt list. on the 1989 list, i found this item:
65. A GracelandTM souvineer pen with a floating Elvis (Elvis really can walk on water!) (75 pts.)
okay, i muttered. they could be asking for a Graceland item without sending the road trippers to Graceland. heck, they could be sending the Road Trippers to Graceland, but that's understandable. Graceland is Americana. Graceland is pop culture. Graceland is kitsch at its kitschiest. this item got my attention, but it would not have alone been enough to make me go on Yet Another Repeat Rant.
but, then, i saw this:
128. What is the home of the "throwed rolls"? (7 pts.)
we didn't catch any Throwed Rolls on the way to Graceland, this year, now, did we? oh, wait...yes, we did. those were the only two obvious repeats i saw between the 1989 road trip and road trip items i've done, but it's kind of crazy that they've sent the teams to the same dinner place as well as Graceland in the same year. i wonder if there's anything else good to eat that's a few hours out of Memphis...there's got to be some other hole in the wall, right?
still, i can't fault the judges that much for sending Road Trip to Lambert's again. those rolls are darn good.
197. Look, we’re not claiming to be experts here, but we’re pretty sure that a real documentary is supposed to have solemn narration, talking head experts, “Ashokan Farewell”, and the inability to show a still photo for more than two goddamn seconds without panning or zooming. With that in mind, use footage taken throughout the Hunt to create your own brief film in the style of Ken Burns recounting the adversity and triumph faced by your team each day. New episodes, not to exceed 2 minutes each, should be posted on YouTube by 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. [20 points]
136. “Next Time, on Scav Hunt”...As the credits roll on this year’s Hunt, present us with a 30-second preview of scenes from the next installment. [8 points]
this video contains all three installments of GASH's Ken Burns documentary, as well as the preview.
gotta stop Gerbil! gotta stop Gerbil!
91. Look around you. Look around you. Just, look around you. Have you worked out what we're looking for? Correct. The answer is romance. [7 points]
a nice spoof on the BBC's Look Around You series. i had never actually heard of Look Around You until Scav this year...but i reckon that any of us who grew up on old-school educational videos and filmstrips would find it lulzy.
this was our false start of an attempt to leave Graceland Too...we ended up actually leaving about five minutes later, but this gives you just a tiny taste of how talkative the proprietor of Graceland Too could be.
what a bizarre place.
contrary to what some may believe, there are quite a few first-time Scav Hunters who play with GASH. this year, one of our first-time Scavvies was Trevor, who was also our resident Canadian. :-) he took the lead on developing PooperSkooper, our take on item 214.
he went on CKUT radio this morning to tell a story -- and his story was about Scav Hunt! it's a fabulous behind-the-scenes take on GASH's leading the National Anthem before results were announced, and the Binney impression is spot-on.
to listen to his Scav story, download the file, and fast forward to 40:00 in. it's full of awesome.
319: ALSO SPACE JAM PARTY.
i went to the Scav Judges' party last night, and it was awesome. there were a few other folks who came from GASH (Matthias and SPH), and tons of other scavvies from other teams. i got simultaneously excited and confused when i saw someone running around with a GASH shirt -- excited because HOORAY GASH, and confused because i did not actually recognize the person who was wearing the GASH shirt. turns out, it was one of the BroStoMP FM captains, wearing some of his "Swag swag swag swag" from item 109. :)
it was just so much fun to chat with people...some i had met before last night, some i hadn't, but everyone there had scav hunt in common. we swapped stories, discussed our favourite items, and generally geeked out about scav hunt. i love talking about scav hunt anytime, but it's particularly fun with fellow scavvies -- people who have done it before, who have their own stories and experiences with it.
i also really hope the judges post a picture of the drink list, or at least the text of the drink list. there were some amusing takes on various items...i couldn't resist taking a chance on the Chaos Confetti -- you shut your eyes, pointed to three bottles, and that's what you got mixed up. i was also a huge fan of the Secret Stuff -- which turned out to be delicious, delicious Malört.
