i honestly think one of the reasons that steddie as a ship became so popular and has stuck around is because both steve and eddie have a lot of personality to them. they are both very interesting characters.

steve has had this entire arc of going from basically the jock-villain to this lovable guy who cares so deeply for the people he’s around. his best friend being a chaotic lesbian and an adorkable nerd five years younger than him

and then eddie represents all of us who feel kind of distant from society at large, and is unafraid to be himself while simultaneously being aware about how you’re perceived as a weirdo. a guy who is an outcast in all sense of the word, and is family to the other outcasts of the town.

they come together in this magical combination of people who, on paper, don’t work. they don’t share common interests it’s very much the jock-nerd classic set up for a rivalry. yet they work in perfect harmony. they share deep love for everyone for their friends. eddie can brings out parts of steve that were diminished by his parents or the friends he was around in high school. and steve can provide the love and stability for eddie that he desires after feeling like the odd-queer-out for his whole life. they have these very outwardly appearing ying and yang lives, but deeply they are so similar.

one thing that im really upset about regarding volume two is that it really solidifies the idea for me that showrunners who are not queer, treat queerness in shows as a plotline and diversity ploy.

the duffer bros don’t give a shit about will. they’ve done nothing but treat wills character like shit. they made him have all these profound lines the season, only to use his feelings towards mike as a plot for mike and eleven to get closer. dangling a queer relationship in audiences faces during interviews, only to use it as a plot point for a heterosexual relationship.

as for robin, vickie is a very uninteresting character in the fact that she is rob’s twin. they almost used robins entire dialogue from earlier in the season word for word during her scene with vickie in the last episode.

i could get into talking about how they queer coded eddie with his handkerchief but i digress

generally this just shows me how little people actually care about queer people. they just want to attract the queer audience and then shit all over us when we actually begin to enjoy a show that we think might have queer characters.

my problem is that i can very easily convinced myself that one thing is truth, so when i go to actually watch a show and it doesn’t have the headcanons that ive convinced myself is canon, im very confused
