Welcome to my MCD Character Redesign series! Thank you to everyone who voted! First up:

Name: Aphra

Age: 26 (believed to be in early 20s)

Pronouns: Any (she/her as default)

Height: 4’ 11”

Stats:

Strength: 5/10 (stronger than average for her height but turns out that’s still not super strong)

Stamina: 7/10

Agility: 4/10

Knowledge: 2/10

Emotional intelligence: 9/10

Charisma: 7/10

Personality: Aphra is curious and outgoing, always eager to learn about the world she’s found herself in and the people around her. Due to her curiosity and lack of knowledge, she can come across as childish. That combined with her short stature has led to others assuming she is younger than she physically is. Sometimes her excitement can be grating to more serious members of the village, but it clear she’s coming from a good place.

Don’t let her sweet demeanor fool you, she’s fascinated by combat and while untrained, her unconventional fighting style is surprisingly effective. When things get serious, Aphra can be unexpectedly mature in how she handles things, often knowing the perfect thing to say.

Backstory: Unknown

Key relationships:

Zoey: Somewhat cold to start with, but her initial curiosity with Aph’s situation quickly blossoms into a fondness, in a “weird stray cat who keeps following you” kind of way. Later on, her respect for Aph grows, and she begins to treat her as an equal. It was never officially decided, but Aph just starts to stay with Zoey full-time.

Garroth: Similar to Zoey (them plus Logan and Emmalyn make up the blondes against Aphra squad lol), but with less curiosity and more outright suspicion. Despite this, Aph feels drawn towards him. After Zenix, they become extremely close.

Laurance: Best friends and partners in crime. They get along great and can always make each other laugh, sometimes at Garroth’s expense.

Levin and Malachi: As someone who started with nothing, who was lucky to find a home and people who cared for her, Aph is determined to continue that kindness. She’s always first to extend a hand to people who need help, children especially. Even thought she’s busy with her duties as lord, she always makes time for her children. She’s very physically affectionate and is good at making them laugh, but can also be kind and gentle when that’s needed.

Skills/weapons/abilities:

Aph is a jack-of-all-trades, picking up skills from many of the other villagers. With this sample platter of skills she is able to point out inefficiencies in their process or areas where combining their specialities would improve the village.

Aph is gifted a dagger for her first journey out of the village, which becomes her go-to weapon. She received a variety of weapon training from Garroth to learn to defend herself, so she has a solid base for other weapons as well.

Mcd designs Pt1

So I made some paper doll style references for my mcd designs a couple years ago. I was planning on posting them, but for some god awful reason I decided that was the time to make full character bios alongside the designs. But their backstories took so long to explain and some of their traits I hadn’t even thought about until I had to try and pick them. So fittingly, the only person’s I finished was Aphra, the only one without a backstory lol

So I figured rather than let that art go to waste, I’d just post them. If anyone wants backstory info I’d be happy to provide. Some of these have gotten outdated, but most of the colors are pretty accurate.

There will be the blank versions of the doll under the cut for some stylized nudity.

Talked about Aph’s birthmark here and mentioned how I give each character a “face thing” to make them recognizable even without their colors or with different clothes/hair. But I never actually got around to explaining what the other characters “thing” was. So I’ll do it here!

Aph: Birthmark over left eye

Garroth: Scar across the nose

Laurance: Distinct freckle pattern

Katelyn: Scar under left eye

Travis: Gap in front teeth

Zane: Scar over right eye

Dante: Distinct facial hair

Nicole: Scar on left eyebrow

Nana: I mean, the cat ears are pretty obvious, but also one of the only characters with lower lashes

Lucinda: Beauty mark

Aaron: Scar across lip

Zoey: Elvish mark on forehead

Obviously I try my best to keep their shape language recognizable and consistent, and I think I’m pretty good about not failing into the “every boy has some variation of generic shag haircut” trap, but these features just give me that extra bit of confidence that people will know who’s who
