Intro/reintro

Howdy Aphblr, still alive and still thinking of you! Even though I mostly do Trolls art at the moment, I still have some writing and drawing ideas for mcd. It was my first fandom, so even if other stuff comes in I really don’t think it’ll ever leave me.

So I decided to make a dedicated side blog for any Aphmau art/ramblings I have!

Talked about Aph’s birthmark here and mentioned how I give each character a “face thing” to make them recognizable even without their colors or with different clothes/hair. But I never actually got around to explaining what the other characters “thing” was. So I’ll do it here!

Aph: Birthmark over left eye

Garroth: Scar across the nose

Laurance: Distinct freckle pattern

Katelyn: Scar under left eye

Travis: Gap in front teeth

Zane: Scar over right eye

Dante: Distinct facial hair

Nicole: Scar on left eyebrow

Nana: I mean, the cat ears are pretty obvious, but also one of the only characters with lower lashes

Lucinda: Beauty mark

Aaron: Scar across lip

Zoey: Elvish mark on forehead

Obviously I try my best to keep their shape language recognizable and consistent, and I think I’m pretty good about not failing into the “every boy has some variation of generic shag haircut” trap, but these features just give me that extra bit of confidence that people will know who’s who

Credit to Clacy2812 and their wonderful Zukka animatic, I’ve been watching it over and over again the past few days! I basically just remade the ending of their animation in my own style, and obviously far less skillfully lol

Polycule but it’s just two people in a romantic relationship with each other and their third who’s pretty obviously aroace but also somehow so deeply intertwined in their lives that it’d just be wrong to not count them as involved. Is this anything.

Hardcore Parkour!

Just wanted to draw some sportswear and tactical fashion. Headcanon that Travis is into parkour (probably isn’t that good at it though the failboy he is) so I guess he invited everyone else out and they all got way too into it

The contrasting strings weren’t intentional at first but I really like them now

Also I’ve been messing around with the unrealistic hair colors being dye/extensions in mystreet, so I tried that here with Katelyn and Travis.

Mcd designs Pt1

So I made some paper doll style references for my mcd designs a couple years ago. I was planning on posting them, but for some god awful reason I decided that was the time to make full character bios alongside the designs. But their backstories took so long to explain and some of their traits I hadn’t even thought about until I had to try and pick them. So fittingly, the only person’s I finished was Aphra, the only one without a backstory lol

So I figured rather than let that art go to waste, I’d just post them. If anyone wants backstory info I’d be happy to provide. Some of these have gotten outdated, but most of the colors are pretty accurate.

There will be the blank versions of the doll under the cut for some stylized nudity.

One of my least favorite parts of plotting out a rewrite is figuring out the timeline. How long between these two key events? If x amount of time passes how old is the character now? I have set ages for the characters but if a season takes place over multiple years, is that their age at the start or at the end? Etc etc

But I will say, every once in a while the timeline actually leads to cool overlaps and makes me think of connections I hadn’t thought of before.

For example: Katelyn is two years older than Garroth. Garroth runs away from O’Khasis at 16. I envision Katelyn being enlisted into The Jury when she’s 18, which would be just after Garroth leaves. So that made me think: maybe something happened during Garroth’s escape that led to…a position being opened.

It’s not super thought out, I don’t have any ideas about this hypothetical jury member, or whether this was a case of failure or intentionally showing mercy, but I do really want to add more of these butterfly effect moments of characters affecting each other without realizing

I don’t really draw him much, even with a serious rewrite I’m still not super attached to him, but I do quite like the design I made for Aaron. Some real “depressed yet still hot old man” vibes.

After two years of production, the Snow Fairy Minecraft Diaries fan collab is finally releasing for the MCD 11th anniversary!!

This project has been so special to me, and everyone who worked on it did amazingly. I’d like to thank everyone who was interested, supported us, or participated. It’s been an absolute treat to see this come together.

Was going through my sketchbooks for nostalgia reasons. I don’t usually post sketches, but I wanted to show off some old ideas and concepts I haven’t gotten around to doing digitally yet

Some very outdated character headshots. The only one who’s even close to this now is Lucinda, but I find it funny how Laurance’s old face is basically exactly how I draw Dante currently

These were me brainstorming shape language, and even though they’re old this is shockingly accurate to the shapes I keep in mind now, aside from Dante, and giving Aph a lot more sharp elements in her eyes and brows

Some assorted villain sketches. The Gene and Michi ones aren’t even close to canon now, but I adore the chibi style I had back then. The others are a Laurance and Michi fusion who is really fun to draw, might be time to bring them out again. And a headshot of Michi which is pretty accurate to how I see her now

A Zane dedicated page, mostly drawing him in Rottmnt Donnie’s poses. He’s not an outright villain in my rewrite and joins Phoenix Drop eventually, and I imagine his dynamic with them is very similar to Donnie

Concept for Enki’s design, drawing a lot on how I used to draw Travis before he got redesigned

Pre-Transition Laurance with Cadenza (talked more about in detail here), mostly trying to design a cute set of sibling outfits. This was the “girliest” Laurance ever was, after officially being adopted by Hayden but before coming out. Even then he leaned more tomboy

I struggle so much with dressing cadenza. How do you design a canonically stylish character when your goal as an artist is to make everyone look good already? How do you set them apart?
