Following an #ATC instruction to “Line Up and Wait” meaning that clearance has been given to enter the runway, but to wait further instructions before taking off. Clearance to take off has not been given at this stage (usually due to an obstruction on the runway preventing takeoff). So we line up, and await further instructions before commencing our takeoff roll, this time at #TeessideInternationalAirport from Runway 23 in our @edenflighttraining #PiperTomahawk #GBTFP. I know most of those who follow me will clearly understand what the large numbers painted onto the runway surface actually represent, but for those who don’t: Runway numbers are determined by rounding the compass bearing of one runway end to the nearest 10 degrees and truncating the last digit, meaning runways are numbered from 01 to 36 — The opposite end of the runway always differs by 180 degrees, so it's numbered 18 higher or lower than the runway you are using. There is no 00 as 36 is used to represent a northerly heading. Runway 23 at Teesside points in a Westerly direction on a heading of 230 degrees, therefore it is identified as Runway 23. Very probably common knowledge to most but I thought it would be worth sharing as our #ExperienceFlight customers regularly ask the significance of the numbers and it’s an interesting fact and possible pub quiz answer at some stage ! #FlyWithEden #LearnWithEden #SummerFlying #StudentPilot #ExperienceFlight #TrialFlight #PilotForAnHour #LearnToFly #CommercialPilot #PPL #LAPL #PA38 #PiperTomahawk #PA28 #PiperCherokee #PiperWarrior #Runway23 #Runway05 #GRVND #GAXZD #GBOXC #GOEFT @BoseAviation @transairflightequipment #SkyDemon #TryFlying #PilotLicence @TeessideLive (at Teesside International Airport Limited) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBhqqcQhTnB/?igshid=10145s2bbkecg
