It was kind of heartbreaking seeing Sakuya's guilt over her Geass cause her to make herself mute.
Although maybe it was unintentional, it did remind me of the final Mao episode, in which Lelouch uses Geass on himself and curses Mao to never speak again.
(Spoilers) This is more likely the intentional call back to the original series with the female lead talking to the deceased male character.
