What is Gelsey and the tambourine?

oh boy here we go lads get ready for a Tale

picture this: i’m going to see ghost quartet at the nytw with @anxiousbodhi and another friend. we are standing in line, waiting for the doors to open in about 45 minutes.

i turn to speak to my friend and see gelsey bell herself walking down the sidewalk. she is beautiful. i fell in love with her (and dave and brittain) a month prior when i saw great comet. now she is less than 5 feet from me.

(i do not alert @anxiousbodhi because i fear that he might die on the spot.) i myself almost die on the spot. this is only the beginning of the story, but my heart begins to pound.

she enters the building. 45 minutes later, we enter the building. we wait in the lobby, and i stand by the basement door until i hear footsteps coming up the stairs. i move out of the way, expecting a crew member, but instead it is brent himself. he walks through the crowd. only about 30% of the people recognize him, and i realize he is the most cryptid man of all time.

at this point i am hyperventilating. we take our seats, and the actors come in. brittain and gelsey are directly in front of me. for the entire first side i cannot stop smiling, enough for my cheeks to start hurting and my lips to start shaking.

gelsey is absolutely stunning. the other actors are, too, but the person of consequence right now is gelsey bell herself, with her wide sparkling smile and whimsical arm movements. she moves almost like a tree in the wind, and she is wearing a white dress (different from the one in most of the ghost quartet pictures that circulate here)

by soldier and rose i already know that i am more in love with brittain and gelsey than ever before, but soon after that we get to four friends. i expect this to be a fun song. a bop, one might say. i am not at all prepared for what happens next.

three verses go by, and i am still alive. until gelsey’s verse. her singing alone is enough to kill a man, but what they do not tell you, because the knowledge is too powerful, is that as she begins to sing, she also sways her hips from side to side in time to the beat.

she is so lithe and graceful that this alone may prove too much for some, but that is not all. as she sways, she also takes her tambourine and. i need to take a quick break before i type this.

okay. she begins to slap the tambourine against her hip as she sways. very casually, still in time to the beat, a quick tap on her hip as it juts out. another quick tap as she moves the other direction. each one produces a jingle of the tambourine.

(if you happen to be listening to the recording (especially the mckittrick) you can hear the tambourine start, but i was incredibly not ready for that to be the method of playing it.)

if you do not understand the full magnitude of this i want you to remember the impossible beauty of gelsey bell’s smile and voice. i want you to picture her about 15 feet in front of you, about to inhumanly scream in only a few songs. i want you to think about her dancing, only moving her hips in a wide and i dare to say sexy swaying motion. about the very concept of her playing a tambourine with said swaying hips.

now remember that this does not happen once or twice, but for the entirety of her verse in four friends. the moment the tambourine strikes her hip the first time i feel all the breath leave my body. i do not think it returns for her entire verse. i remember my mouth hanging open.

all too soon the verse is done. i feel fundamentally different. i have never experienced anything like it since and i never will again.

thank you for reading my tale if you made it this far. this is the main reason i would die for a ghost quartet video, and might sacrifice anything up to and including my entire body for dave to release a four friends video.
