At some point following her deciding to stay with Paul, Lili decides to adopt an androgynus short hair cut to mark her new sense of confidence and maturity, because she always wanted to have short hair but her late parents didn't allow her to cut it.

She asks Jacquot to teach her how to play the concertina and to perform as a clow and starts wearing trousers and performs her improv from then on as a clown along with the glove puppets that are performed by Paul and Jacquot.

While not officially afiliated to the party in France, Paul simpathizes with the comunists because he was raised by a comunist father, and most of his comrades in the French Resistance during World War II were avowed members of the Comunist Party.

He is very frustrated with general Charles de Gaulle presidency that becomes the official face of the Resistance while erasing the more radical left leaning aspect, and is cynical about the people who go around parading Liberating France from the Nazis but are now the opressive occupation in Indochina, Polinesia, Argelia, West Africa, French Guiana and Martinique.

While his progressive beliefs go to the topic of economics and geopolitics, when it comes to family relationships, Paul shows more of the influence of his patriarchal time and society: he is old fashioned about monogamy, believing that man and women must pick a person and stay with that person unless a divorce happens, expecting women to marry virgins, and is very jealous if Lili does something that might be perceived as too sensual in front of strange men in the 1950s.

Paul and Lili have four children.

The last two were surprise twins.

Jacquot, Paul's assistant and Paul and Lili's friend, is homoromantic and asexual. The friends he met in the circus comunity know, love, respect and accept who he is, it is the safe space he found when leaving his family.
