Ever write in silly little details just for yourself? Like it is bad luck to pair ruby and sapphires, according to some lore. So I had a toxic couples' wedding rings as a ruby as sapphire. Also, emeralds aren't always good to pair with sapphires, but they're ok with rubies... which is a third character wears... no one else will probably give a crap, but I know it and it makes me happy.

Fun fact:

Amethyst and Rose Quartz, the stones, are related. 

SU fact, Amethyst's whip is a rose vine. Steven/Rose's shield is a coiled rose vine.

Which mplies that the characters of Rose Quartz and Amethyst, like their namesake stones are in fact related. Either by sisterhood or cousins. 

Compare their apparent body shapes as well (the silhouette in laser light cannon and her picture for Rose and Amethyst's body shape). They're also very similar. I'd suspect that if we ever do find out, they're likely sisters. 

This would continue the stone lore and facts carried on into the crystal gems. Since of the three,  Garnet is the only one who can survive being in lava without breaking down. And since the difference in Rose Quartz and Amethyst is a few mineral traces that chance the colours, it'd make sense that the two characters were sisters.

Did you know gemstones are cut in all sorts of ways and that the way a stone is cut is sometimes dependent on what stone it is?

Mostly it depends on how you want the gemstone to shine and how to best show off how pretty it is. Here's some examples and explanations of different cuts.

Fun fact.. Pearl's 'stone' isn't really a stone, but is a Pearl, and so it's polished into a Cabochon, Amethyst's is a six-point cut, and Garnet's two garnets are two different cuts, one is a triangle cut an the other is a french cut both on round stones :D
