guys I have an opinion.
Gen Beta should not start this year. All other named generations last for about 15 years, so when the next generation starts, the oldest people in that generation are 15 years old. The starting year for Gen Alpha is widely considered 2013, so that would make the oldest Gen Alpha kids 12 this year. 12 does not equal 15.
Instead of starting Gen Beta in 2025, we should start it in 2028, that way they miss the worst of it and so the Gen Alpha kids don't feel old yet.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons was such a huge part of the COVID-19 lockdown that I can almost guarantee when Gen Z/Alpha/Beta inevitably popularizes a COVIDcore aesthetic, the ACNH music will almost certainly be included in that slice of neo-nostalgia.
Scott, John and Virgil are now canonically Gen Beta.
Somehow this already feels worse than Gen Z Jeff.
Sonic the edgehog!?
WHAT DID I JUST SEE? 😱
We really need a better name scheme for generations after Alpha. They were never supposed to be letters. Gen X was like Planet X or X-Rays, the X stood for the new, the unknown. Millennials were never really called Gen Y, so it doesn't make sense that their kids were called Gen Z just because nobody could think of anything better. And Alpha is just lazy. We had one year (2005) where hurricanes surpassed the alphabet and we had to start using Greek letters and now people act like Greek is the "next alphabet." Nobody wants to be part of Generation Beta, and you've got maybe two generations after that before the layperson stops understanding Greek; they may know alpha, beta, gamma, delta, but the average person doesn't know epsilon. We're not gonna have a Generation Epsilon in the 2080s/90s, the turn of the 22nd century, that's just ridiculous.
"Ohh gen alpha is so spoiled and annoying!!" "Ohh gen beta is doomed oh foofers booff aahahshhahahah!!!1!1!1!1!!1" THEN HELP??
The newer generations (yes, including younger gen Zs) are just kids. They're kids, just like you were. Imagine how much those kids are gonna go through. Never having a proper childhood, being exploited by social media and forced into insecurity at like FIVE. FIVE thinking they need skincare and makeup and crop-tops and everything like that just to not get bullied or left out.
Do you think that's just being spoiled? They need help. And the least you could do is feel bad. I KNOW it's annoying if you go to Sephora and there's 10yr olds giving you dirty looks and chewing you out for some drunk elephant or whatever, but instead of shaming them or recording them and posting them on the internet, you should FEEL BAD. I know. It's annoying. They're annoying, I'm speaking from experience.
But as someone with a gen alpha little brother, it genuinely pains me to see him grow up surrounded by 5 different electronics at the same time. I so, so badly wish he could have a proper childhood. That he could go outside and play and make friends and be happy. Instead, he's being fed brainrot and sexual content and racism and ableism and sexism all disguised as humor, forced to witness horrors beyond what someone his age should ever see, as just short-form content he consumes mindlessly. He was making sexual jokes at like 9 YEARS OLD. WHAT?? Now, okay, sure. “9 years old isn't THAT bad, he's just exploring!!” well MAYBE, instead of exploring through social media enforcing harmful content and literal PORN that is accessible scarily easily, he should explore out of curiosity.
And the reason I'm so concerned and angry about this, is because I was raised like that. I was raised with the internet, creepypastas, animation memes, FNAF and Undertale and MHA and everything like that. But I was ALSO witnessing gore, porn and brain-melting horrors that caused me horrific traumas and I can't remember most of my childhood anymore. I'm actively going mentally insane because of this, and I do not want my brother to go through the same.
We need to help gen alpha/beta. Seriously.
