I feel like I’ve yapped myself into a comfortable position rn, but if anyone wants to be Thunderbirds Are Go / Thunderbirds moots I would be so happy 🥺👉👈 tired of being a long time occasional lurker and I want to obsessively talk about all of my faves (I am wayy more obsessed with TAG though so i will probs yap about this the most)

this is going to sound super cheesy but i was watching the Kings Man again and the line about Arthur and the knights of the round table being that all of them were equal made me realise something about TAG that someone else has probably already thought of but here it is anyway

in TOS, Jeff Tracy as the patriarch was very much in charge of the rescue operations. The boys defer to him at most opportunities, listen to his orders, and generally take his opinion and advice a whole lot more than they do themselves. Yeah they do make some decisions on the fly. But it's 2000% Jeff leading the operation and they take everything he says as gospel, even if they disagree at the time and such like. He does take their ideas too (like in Terror in New York City), but 99% of the time they defer to him.

in TOS especially, Jeff Tracy's desk is in the lounge where he has a good look at the boy's portraits. It's where emergency calls come in. He's there with his radios and such to be there to lead the inital first response (or second, considering they get relayed down from TB5). That desk is a central feature. It's the sign that he's the leader of IR. Scott taking on his duties in Atlantic Inferno was a very brief passing of the torch. He sat at that desk and took charge.

In TAG, yes there is Jeff's desk in the lounge facing the portraits. Scott and Gordon even sit at it a few times, and Jeff himself does too right at the end. But the main holographic projections appear in the centre of the table lower down.

A round table.

The family are almost always seen sitting or otherwise hanging around in that lounge, and when a call comes through, they sit in those rounded sofas to face John/whoever is calling. All of them sharing a rounded space because they all equal.

idk i just kinda love how they all are in TAG when their dad isn't "in charge" like he was. They are all collaborative and shout out ideas at one another, always willing to help and have a laugh. No hierarchy stuff at all.
