Just started listening to the podcast and loving it. Something which confused me about Life and Death. Did Earnest Cullen take Carine's name when they got married? That was very progressive of them for the 1920s. Progressive Feminist Earnest confirmed?

@bowlingshirtbellas I had totally forgotten that the Big Literary Comparison in Eclipse is Wuthering Heights until I listened to the new podcast episode. As a Brontë nerd, I have some Thoughts:
First of all, I don’t think Wuthering Heights is a love story in the same way as Pride and Prejudice and Romeo and Juliet are. It’s kind of the distinction between “I could fix him” vs. “I could make him worse”. The love in the first two is of a more positive sort, whereas love drives Cathy and Heathcliff to destroy themselves and everyone around them. I don’t actually think Emily Brontë intended Heathcliff to be this romantic Byronic hero that he’s become.
Honestly, this book seems like an odd choice for a comparison. Obviously, there’s the parallel concept of love transcending death (although in a slightly different way for Bella and Edward). But Bella Swan is the furthest thing I can imagine from Cathy Earnshaw. Even though I think she enjoys the idea of a wild and passionate love, she’s far too practical, and she cares too much about the people around her.
Anyway, it will be interesting to see how this metaphor plays out over the course of Eclipse.
Coming out stories play to straight people's feelings because coming out is telling straight people something.
