Having MyHeritage is fun. Especially when one can have multiple websites. I’ve gone ahead and made up a family tree starting with the living Murats, and in less that 20 minutes I found Berthier, Murat, Ney, Massena… and I’m working back to see which clary it ended up with.

So i have this really bad phobia of deep water, have had it my whole life, and i find out the other day that apparently my family has had like 5 separate horrible boat-related experiences including both the titanic and mayflower????????

Random but if you need a family tree making software for something (fictional, personal, something else) then I'd recommend My Family Tree by Chronoplex Software. Only available on Windows, but otherwise it's super good.

1. It's not like Ancestry, there's no link to real people. You have complete freedom with who you add and how you connect them - I use it for Greek Myths and more and while the tree gets messy, it has no problem with Oedipus and his issues. That was honestly all I was looking for when I found it about 5 years ago, but the rest is a bonus.

2. Lots of space to add information. Dozens of different types of relationships for both marriage and parenting, boxes for notes and events, date systems that calculate age for you and also allow you to add something as 'after' or 'before' or 'circa' and a bunch of other things.

3. A bunch of different tool things. You can get timelines, the relation between two people, multiple different tree views, stats on last names and ages and living/dead and all the things. And I find the interface really nice, it's a good balance of not being too what I refer to as '2000s internet' while also being useful without modern streamlining and AI tools.

4. It does well with lots of data. I do worry about it sometimes with my tree, since what started as Greek Gods has escalated into chronicling the Roman Emperors and Ptolemaic Pharaohs, but even at over 1200 people, and sometimes a tree that shows over 2000 people (since those Greeks are messy) it doesn't crash or anything, it's not even slow (and if it is then it's my laptop's fault)

Just a little tip for anyone looking for one, I wanted to share how cool this software is. I could tell you how Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great, and Perseus (either one) are all related and it's so cool.
