I've just realized that in Alice By Heart, two of the mock turtles represent a gay man and a jewish person, and they're talking about loved ones they've lost (husband + rabbi respectively) to Alice, comparing them to Alfred, who is dying of sickness, and then later the doctor who tells Alice that there's no saving Alfred is portrayed as a nazi in brillig braelig. noticing things.
