Midorima Shintarou and The Zone
Just recently, I started watching Sports Animes and they’re honestly the best thing ever. One of the animes that I have been watching is Kuroko no Basuke.
Kuroko no Basuke is a basketball sports anime and it’s about powerhouses who are trying to maintain their position as number 1. To put it simply, it is the opposite of Haikyuu wherein Karasuno is an underdog school trying to make it to the top.
Just a little a few minutes ago, my friend, who introduced me to Kuroko, sent me a fun fact about Midorima Shintarou. Before I mention the fact, I will tell you who he is to further understand.
Midorima is a sharp shooter and is one of The Generation of Miracles. He is the shooting guard of Shutoku High. He strongly believes in destiny and fate and would always read/listen to his horoscope. Not once, did Midorima miss a shot. He is the most accurate shooter in the prefecture.
Now, the fun fact that my friend sent me was: Midorima Shintarou is the only member of the Generation of Miracles who hasn’t entered the Zone.
The Zone is a place in the mind (or something like that) only a few can enter by focusing strongly and giving 100% percent in a game. One cannot rely on anything but oneself and must love the game in order to enter. Lastly, trying to enter the Zone, will give the player LESS chances of entering it.
Regarding the fun fact, I sent a theory in reply to my friend. She said it was an interesting theory, so I decided to share it. I’m pretty sure that I’m not the only who thought of this, so to others who thought of it too, that’s great! (GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE!)
Ok, so I know that entering the Zone is difficult because it requires a lot. And the requirements aren’t easy to achieve. It will take awhile. But why is it that even Murasikbara was able to enter? And Midorima can’t/hasn’t?
At the end of ep25 S2, it implies that Murasaikbara loves basketball, contrast to what he says. And the fact that he was able to enter the Zone, proves that he does in fact loves the sport. Because in order to enter, the player must love the sport.
My theory is that, the reason Midorima has not been able to enter the Zone is because, despite loving the sport, and having a great deal of focus, a part of him relies on his horoscope. I think it was Kise or Aomine who mentioned that one cannot rely on the Zone itself to enter it. and one must give 100%.
Midorima says that he gives 100% and leaves the rest up to fate/destiny. And since, he leaves the rest to his fate/destiny, technically, he is relying on that. Even if it’s just a little bit. Which means that he isn’t really giving his 100%. Therefore, he can’t enter the Zone.
So that’s my theory as to why Midorima hasn’t entered the Zone yet. This is only a theory that I thought of, but I’m pretty sure that there are others out there who thought the same thing.
Anyways, have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!!
