From Software's tongue and cheek take on the Mecha genre is a superb title that is a lot more arcade based gameplay than their more serious Armored Core franchise. Sadly despite the game being released in 2004 on Xbox, it never saw release outside of Japan. One of the suggestions was due to the use of the Presidential Seal without permission in-game caused it a legal headache. As a result very few people every played or even heard of Metal Wolf Chaos not least because of the Xbox flopping in Japan.
The design of the game is clearly based towards Western gamers and had it got released back in 2004 on Xbox worldwide it might have done very well. What every the full story, it wasn't until Devolver Digital started looking to release the game in 2016 did the ball move on a western release. Finally in 2019 we got this new XD port, which has slightly inferior lighting to the original version and is still capped at 30fps. It's far from an ideal port and not really a HD upgrade more just an upscale, but finally western gamers get to play this utterly crazy and enjoyable game.
