A list of 10 reading, writing, thinking and doing literacy strategies that can work with any content area.
I think they would be more useful for teachers who are trying to step away from those standardized testing strategies.

Just got home from a couple hour long coffee shop study session with Jordan. I spent a lot of time working on math homework and study questions for my biopsych lecture.
Truthfully, I think I’m in over my head big time. There are so many terms for me to memorize and associate with structures and functions of the brain/body. There are some topics I am slightly familiar with, but most of this is foreign territory. The topics in the book that I don’t have to know for the lecture happen to be things I HAVE to know for the lab.
I plan on making a set of flash cards on Quizlet once I finish the study questions. I hope that having that on hand will help out.
Oh yeah. I had my first speech on Wednesday. The professor really liked my intro, since I used quotes from TLC’s “Waterfalls” to narrate my experience with hiking and waterfalls. I’m hoping my “creative juices” are sufficient enough to make it through the rest of the term.

Good Things
Things seem to be looking up at school with Finn. I’m not sure what to attribute it to – some positive strategies that are being used, or just plain time? Maybe a combination. Nevertheless, we are going to go forward with a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA), and we’ve also requested that his triennial assessments, due this spring, be undertaken as soon as possible. I despise the…

Here is what I almost wrote for an online class discussion in some BS Gen Ed class about Gen Ed that I need to graduate this May.
I think that students should be required to take general education courses because it gives them a broader, more well-rounded education, it helps them to discover where they may have aptitudes that they might not have ever considered and because we've already sunk so much money into our education that you guys know you can weasel out a few more courses and we won't say boo.
I mean, I want to be a hermit who writes books and draws pictures. If I have my way, I'll live in a castle on a pile of money and I’ll only have to speak to my husband, my robot-husband and my cats. I mean, what the hell am I going to do with sociology? Oh, cool, I can examine crowds that give me panic attacks because they could become a riot in less than four seconds. Wow, I can watch the Breakfast Club and identify four more reasons why it's upper-middle-class self-pitying garbage. Now I can see why this was a popular major for all the jocks in my high school who got to go to better schools than I did because, even though they can barely read, they can throw a ball real good! It's great! It's just like psychology, but without any of the hard stuff! I hate general ed. If I had my way, I would have just taken writing and art classes until I became a master of both and then I would write and draw something that would make every college kid boycott general ed classes. And then every English teacher would have no idea how to do algebra and every mechanical engineer would have no idea how the French Revolution went down and I wouldn’t give a fucking shit. That's how much I hate it.
First Week of School: a Recap
First Week of School: a Recap
Finn started first grade last Monday. It hit me hard over that weekend how many changes he would be dealing with: new teacher, new aide, new classroom, new playground, new rules, and longer school days. I suddenly felt like we were about to throw him to the wolves, and I kind of went into panic mode, imagining the worst on his first day of school. I had this picture in my mind of leaving him…
