Field Marshal George Wade died on 14 March 1748. Born in Killavally, Westmeath, Ireland in 1673, Wade is best remembered for planning and overseeing the construction of 240+ miles of military road and over 40 bridges while serving as Commander-in-Chief, Scotland (1724-1740).
