Anjali Chaturvedi, a prominent Indian-American legal expert, has been nominated by US President Joe Biden to serve as General Counsel in the Veterans Affairs Department, making her the latest member of the community to be named to a key position in the administration. According to the White House website, Ms Chaturvedi is a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Department Of the justice of the United States Department of Justice.
Ms. Chaturvedi has been shortlisted to be the General Counsel of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
The department's main vision is to provide veterans with world-class benefits and services that they have earned — while upholding the rigorous quality of compassion, commitment, excellence, competence, integrity, accountability, and stewardship.
Ms. Chaturvedi has started working in all three branches of government as well as private practice. Ms Chaturvedi was the Assistant General Counsel and Director of Inquests for Northrop Grumman Corporation before returning to government service, where she led the company's global investigations team.
Ms Chaturvedi previously worked as an Assistant General Counsel at British Petroleum and as a companion at the law firm Nixon Peabody in Washington, DC. She worked as a federal prosecutor before going into private practise.
