niia - Generation Blue
[bd_button url="https://www.facebook.com/NiiaMusic" color="blue" type="square" size="small" target="_blank"]Niia Facebook[/bd_button] Niia first came onto my radar about two years ago after I heard her covers of Jai Paul's 'BTSU' and Gary Jules' 'Mad World'. Covers can be extremely tricky, especially when you have a situation like Jai's, where the blog world had collectively lost their shit, praising him as the next everything after 'BTSU' was released. However, Niia was able to trump all that noise with hauntingly soaring vocals and limitless potential, delivering one of the best performances of that year. Since then, it seems she has been rather quiet, only releasing a couple of tracks ('Liberation Hero' and 'Made For You'). Her newest is called 'Generation Blue' and I'm hoping this means some sort of formal project is in the works because its almost criminal she isn't more well known by now.
Niia - "Body" (Jazz, Pop, classical, Soul)
Niia Bertino is her birth name but she goes by Niia. Bertino grew up in NeedHam, Massachusetts CA but she is now based in New York. Bertino started off young being taught by her mother in classical piano and began singing at the age of 13. Since Bertino is familiar with soulful, jazzy music, its no wonder her style of music is captivating to listener's ears. Bertino first started out being a featured artist on 2007 single, "Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill),". Soon later after few more singles Bertino and producer RobinHannibal debuted her EP Generation Blue, released on October 28, 2014. In her EP "Generation Blue" Niia's song "Body" is one of the many favorites. In the Song "Body" Bertino's voice is captured so greatly with a Jazzy off Beat intro and her vocals are too perfection. she knows her vocal strength and is so effortless with her tender her voice when she sings the chorus making the listeners not just understand how she's feeling but actually feel the warmth in the Bertino's voice, which warms and saddens listener's hearts. Bertino's epic Jazzy Piano solo at the end just polishes the song's ending so perfectly with a dramatic but yet fading calmness that makes you feel a touch of sadness and peace. I can not wait till Niia's next EP or Album it will make all listeners swoon.

I saw this post and I was thinking there could be much better way to split people into generations (based on how the world has changed between when they were born and now). Technology and views have changed so much in the past couple of years that I think the generations are actually getting much smaller, & I think views are changing so rapidly that the differences between people two years ago and people born this year could be the same as generation X and generation Y. So, from the perspective of someone born in 2000, this is what I think would be more accurate:
Generation X is the same (1960′s-1980′s, more specifically 1984-ish)
Generation Y is from around 1985-1995. Their generation experienced 9/11 and remember it well. They saw the rapid improvement of technology and the rise of computers & the internet.
Generation Z’s were born around 1996-2003. We grew up with the war on terror & we got so see the first black president elected. We saw the death of Nokia and the rise of the smart phone. We watched the internet grow from poor and awkward graphics to more elegant and modern.
Generation Blue’s of 2004-2010 (i don’t know what it’d be called but Generation Blue sounds cool) saw changes in music tastes with the births of so. many. bands. They got the “x v.s. y” where everyone is on 1 of 2 sides (cookies v.s. creme, creme v.s. cream, android v.s. apple, etc.). They had to suffer through the stock market crash of 2008, with the loss of thousands (millions across the world?) of jobs.
Generation Red’s of 2011-present day (not an official name but red is pretty much the opposite of blue) are growing up in a world where it’s so much more acceptable to not be straight/cis. The extensive racism of the police are a problem they’re going to grow up with (and hopefully like the others will end in less then 3-10 years). They’re probably going to be the most diverse generation so far, in terms of sexuality and gender.
That’s not to say that previous generations didn’t experience the events the ones ahead of them did.
What do you think? More accurate?
