Cesar Salazar x Scientist! Reader
Traduction from a Request in spanish
Genre: Headcanons
Reader: female
Warnings: none really, typical canon violence, Cesar is kind of dense but get over it. Fluff.
• Everyone in Providence has a purpose, whether they know it or not.
• Rex heals the EVOS and wants to know who he was before, Holiday investigates and experiments to save her sister, even Six might have his own ulterior motives.
• Everyone has a reason to be there, everyone has a purpose and a use.
• Reader, on the other hand, was a bit different.
• She had no dramatic story that tied her to the Nanite event, she had no relatives to save, she had no mission to accomplish with the help of her alliance with Providence. Nothing.
• She had only joined the program, she had joined Providencia out of pure curiosity and fascination towards the unknown.
• Obviously there were other factors around that, like trying to understand what makes EVOs so destructive and how to help. But what caused all that interest was the curiosity to see something so strange.
• Reader is someone very involved in work, almost to an obsessive point. So several colleagues even stopped working with her because they considered her “strange” and too intense.
• Reader pretended that she didn't care, of course she didn't, they have every right to do the work however they want! But it definitely affected her self-esteem quite a bit. Who needs Friends anyway
• At least there were people who didn't think she was annoying (at least not to that much), like Holiday, who would help her not to overdo her late nights or go too long without eating.
• Rex also began to realize that Reader was not as bad as they painted her, yes, she was intense, but she did her job well and saved people. That's what matters, right?
• In this type of job, you expect everything from literal Kaiju attacks to bacteria that eat you from the inside out or even a flying whale.
• However, it was a surprise when reader took ONE day off and when she came back everything was a mess, a SHIP of some kind outside, and some kind of larger, literal/autistic Rex.
• Fortunately Rex (and Bobo) clarified the situation a bit. It turns out that not only was Rex receiving TELEPATHIC messages, but he had an OLDER BROTHER NOW.
• I'll be honest, it's likely that Reader and Cesar didn't get along at first. Even if it was quite one-sided.
• Reader would be very worried about Rex and what Cesar might have in mind, so she would be making passive aggressive remarks about how convenient it was that he should return NOW of all times and not before, how Rex was left alone when he was just a child (some self-projection here because HELL how I disliked Cesar at the time), etc.
• While Cesar either didn't pay attention to her or felt guilty because everything she said was true.
• The tension could be cut with a knife, it was quite uncomfortable, and it would continue like that for a long time.
• Fortunately, they had the opportunity to find things in common as the months went by and for the reader to calm down with her anger.
• Let's say there was some dangerous situation, something that involved the two of them and that made them HAVE TO work together YES OR YES because if not the consequences would be CATASTROPHIC (maybe thanks to Breach. Or like that episode where Rex and Cesar get trapped in god knows where with mutant creatures).
• On the one hand, the reader is intense and meticulous, but Cesar is the real-life equivalent of a mad scientist. So they end up solving the problem using what they both have in common, great intelligence.
• They end up leaving the situation unscathed, and thanks to that, they end up seeing each other with different eyes from here on.
• Cesar honestly thought that the reader's only purpose was to intimidate him, but she is genuinely a good scientist. And very good under pressure. Willing to make difficult decisions. He respects that.
• While the reader only saw Cesar as someone who did not take things seriously. A mad scientist at best and a maniac at worst. But it turns out he really cares about Rex. And it's genuinely brilliant. Curious. Very curious.
• From here on, the reader is more willing to listen to Cesar's ideas for experiments. It is even installed in its laboratory to do the tests in person.
• Sure, there are times when things fly or catch on fire, but hey, details.
• At least it helps to continue removing the tension between them. Like when the reader laughs out loud when Cesar almost sets his hair on fire.
• Or when the reader has to go pick up an ABSURD amount of coffee and fire extinguishers because 1- they don't have enough in the lab and 2- they both stay up legendary allnighters/late nights to get to the bottom of some problem with an invention.
• At this point it seems that the reader sees more of Caesar than Rex. And it's probably Bobo who starts the joke about them being together.
• obviously not! They're just lab mates. The only reader she has had who can handle her “intensity” and that's fine...
• Of course, if we talk about what happens during the last season... Cesar better be able to run fast.
• Obviously reader wants to improve the lives of the EVOs! but by curing them! not basically GIVING THEM A LOBOTOMY!
• Although of course, curiosity is the oldest evil. Although the reader is disgusted with what Providencia has become, she cannot look away.
• If we talk about a POST-SHOW relationship that is definitely less painful :D
• First of all, it helps a lot if they are both scientists, especially if the reader can have the same level of commitment to the work as Cesar. This way you can spend more time together. In a way this reminds Cesar of his parents. A couple of scientists.
• Mind you, it's hard to get either of you to take a break. Rex has had to DRAG them to his room so they can sleep or at least change the coffee dispenser for a water dispenser so they don't die from a caffeine overdose.
• Despite this, Cesar actually takes the safety of the experiments very seriously and that the reader also has safe equipment. He doesn't let it be seen. But it affects him to think what would happen if something went wrong.
• Fortunately the only bad things that have happened are some minor fires. So only a few bandages are necessary.
• Cesar is not very physical with affection, not only because he is not physical, but because of the type of substances he handles, he got used to not touching people for safety reasons. But definitely try to compensate by being more verbal.
• They have better communication! While they suck at telling when they're really tired, they definitely know how to tell when something is wrong or bothering them.
• For Cesar, his family is very important, so he VERY appreciates how close Rex and reader are, and how much she protects him.
• Speaking of, at some point they would have to introduce the reader to Grandma. She would probably be VERY surprised - not that she thought Cesar would ever bring a girlfriend! (well partly yes), but she is definitely surprised in a good way.
• The reader probably likes to tease or make jokes about Cesar about his time with a beard (aka, when he was bad) and it is one of the FEW times that you can witness an embarrassed Cesar.
• These two are not going to have children, they cannot have children, the only children allowed are robots and hopefully a plant (which neither of them can keep alive). IT'S REX'S JOB TO GIVE THEM NEPHEWS!
• In general, they started with a TERRIBLE first impression, became one-sided rivals, then friends, then not so friends, and finally now they can live a quiet life.
• Honestly, they don't complain. They are happy, in their own strange and unconventional way.
