With the latest installment in the Star Wars saga currently out, much talk has been made about how it will compare to the prequels (it has to at least be better than the prequels, right?!), as they are widely agreed to suck total ass. However, I am here to say that they didn’t bring solely darkness to the force. You see, if it weren’t for the prequels, there may have been no GENERiP. The first album I bought, if you don’t count the “Space Jam” soundtrack, was Weird Al’s “Running With Scissors” which I picked up after seeing this video on TV. Tracks like the linked “The Saga Begins” (a parody of Don McLean’s “American Pie” set in Star Wars Episode I), “Jerry Springer”, “It’s All About The Pentiums”, and perhaps the greatest musical art piece ever created, “Albuquerque”, inspired Bob and I to write parodies of our own during Academic Networking Period (or ANP as it’s colloquially known to any Oakville Senior High attendees of that era) while we were supposed to be studying. As they say, one thing led to another, band members were recruited, friends were enlisted, parodies turned to originals, practices were had, recordings were recorded, and shows were put on. But it all probably really comes down to seeing this video a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away....
