disclaimer: this is not an official medical term, and these are not official categories! this is just the result of some amateur research ive been doing related to my own intersex variation. since there's literally nothing i can find anywhere on this structure, im using the term "urethral mound" to describe it

the drawings below are based on images on gynodiversity (link) & i chose the ones that best represent the patterns in shapes i see. amongst those images there are a lot of in-betweens, other less common shapes, vulvas that have a lot more going on in general! so if your setup doesn't fully fit into any of these categories exactly, that is fully normal. feel free to just go w whatever seems closest. this poll is more just to get a bit of info on these / make more people aware this is a Thing that Exists / just as a fun question!

(side note: it's also totally normal if your urethra is large and obvious, or if it's small and very hard to find. there's a lot of variation in that little, often ignored hole!)

also, on hypospadias: it is not always possible (& i don't rlly feel comfortable) saying for certain was is/isn't hypospadias based on one still image w no input from the person themself. if you want to know more about vulvar hypospadias & how to check if you may have it, see this post (link)! i personally have a split urethral mound & based on personal exp that seems more common in ppl w hypospadias, but that's entirely anecdotal rn & they can exist independently.

I have seen people wonder about Greek men exercising and competing in athletics naked. Specifically about the penis. Was the penis just... flopping about? In public? No. That was rude. They tied it up with a cord called a kynodesme.

Usually it was tied around the top of the foreskin. Whether you tied your penis to the side from there or up to a belt around the waist was up to personal preference. I won't show a more realistic depiction than this bit of pottery of how that worked because Tumblr would probably nuke me but you can find diagrams if you google kynodesme.

The Romans also used it to an extent but they seemed to prefer using a ring and pin device called a fibula. Some people got their genitals pierced on purpose to use the devices more easily. Jewish people in the Roman empire also used bands and rings like these to hide the fact that they were circumcised when they had to be naked in public.

[v-hypospadias]

This might be a longshot but I was wondering if you could help me in understanding my anatomy. I've always felt like I do not look exactly typical down there, but I have very little understanding of what ways i look typical, what is "standard variation', and what is potentially intersex variation.

I think I might have vulvar hypospadias, and I'm also wondering if i have some sort of variation in my hymen. I seemingly have overlapping bands of hymenal tissue that look almost like a smaller labia visually obscuring my vaginal canal (it is still accessible). I've heard you mention sleeve hymens, and I was wondering if I might fall under that? I've also considered if I could have had a septate hymen that was torn with physical trauma. My urethral opening, seemingly attached to my hymenal tissue, also seemingly has its own even-smaller-pseudo-labia (for lack of a better wording). The lower part of my vaginal entrance is also seemingly blocked by my perineum, so the canal isn't at all visible between that and the hymen tissue (to insert a tampon I have to go down past it, then in, since both the hymen and perineum is in the way) (I also cannot pee with a tampon in without it filling with urine). My clitoris is also roughly 1 cm by 1cm with a hood that is much longer than that, and I'm unsure whether or not it counts as clitoromegaly.

I've included a diagram of what I look like down there in hopes that you or someone can help me understand my anatomy. Sorry for such a long and personal ask, I really need someone's input to help me understand by body. Thank you!

hi! what you describe definitely sounds like it could fall under sleeve/redundant/hypertrophic hymen! you can have a septate hymen that is also hypertrophic as well. having your hymen be attached to/merging with the urethra is also common w hypospadias.

it also seems like you might have a split/V urethral mound! i have one & it was VERY frustrating for me bc there is literally NOTHING on this structure that i can find, until i started talking about it & someone proposed a name for it. you can see reference diagrams i drew here (link).

also, if your clitoral glans is 1 cm by 1 cm, that could fall under clitoromegaly! i suggest reading this post (link) for info on those measurements.

ultimately its up to you to interpret this info & decide for yourself what fits your body. but i will say what you drew here looks very similar to my own set up & it also lines up well w what has been noticed as common in hypospadias, both officially & anecdotally (thick hymen, urethral-hymenal fusion, split urethral mound, mild clitoromegaly, issues using menstrual products). best of luck to you anon ! 💜💛

forgive me if this is a weird comment i dont mean it in a sexual way, but i dont know much about turtle anatomy but dont they keep their genitals in their tails? if he got his tail amputated is that like an extra traumatizing thing for raph? whether he got mutilated there or if it just missed it or something

IM TRYING TO FIND THE ANSWER BUT IT SEEMS A BIT COMPLICATED. GENERALLY, their genitals including the penis are protected in their cloaca which is located on/near the base of their tails. i cant figure out enough anatomy to know at what point tail amputation would get rid of the genitals too, but Raph's still got the base of his tail.

additionally, I don't think my turtles cloaca would be in the same place as a real turtles?? probably closer to where the asshole is on a human cause of the mutation stuff that made them bipedal man-things. but also!!! i dunno!!! it's not like ive made a diagram about this or anything.
