Hey, uh, sorry if that's the wrong place to ask. Do you know any place where I (I'm not plural - I think the term is singlet) could ask questions regarding how to correctly and respectfully write DID/system characters? I searched through tumblr tags and didn't find anything aside from personal blogs. If you don't care, apologies and have a good day.

no problem, this is a great place to start! i'd say the most widely agreed upon reputable source would be did-research.org, which will have everything you need to understand the basics and the function of the disorder itself. depending on how personal your story gets, i'd say it would also help to reach out to actual systems to get their advice on the more delicate topics, or even just read up on blogs that share their personal experiences. we're totally willing to message if you want our help with that or just have any further questions, but overall i think it's great that you're doing this! the more DID representation that comes from people who have actually gone out of their way to do their research, the better and easier it'll be for systems in the future. as long as you're careful and receptive to criticism, you'll be good! best of luck with your research :)

You know, I noticed before you conflating puzzle games like Witness with adventure games like Myst. Is there a specific deeper reason for this? I always considered 'adventure games' to have puzzles were rules are unclear, and figuring them out is the entire point, while 'puzzle games' to mean games where rules are clear, and the difficulty lies in thinking several moves ahead. (Mind you, Witness kinda blends the lines as it has both types). I am curious on what is your take, though.

There aren’t really clear-cut lines between the genres. Imagine a Venn diagram where the circles are logic puzzles, hidden object games, hypertext interactive fiction, and D&D-inspired CRPGs, and somewhere in the very large overlap between those four circles is where you find what’s traditionally been termed the “point-and-click adventure game”. You can push a game a fair ways toward any one of those poles without knocking it out of the genre entirely; e.g., it’s not uncommon for a game that’s 90% find-the-widget inventory puzzles to suddenly hit you with an induction problem or ask you to solve the Tower of Hanoi or whatever, and it’s hard to argue that’s not logic puzzle territory.

(Heck, even within the atomic genres there’s a spectrum; obviously a game about pure abstract symbol manipulation with no particular setting or story is a logic puzzler, and there exists some amount of setting and story you can get away with adding and still have it be a logic puzzler, but exactly how much setting and story and inventory management bullshit can you shove into it before it stops being a logic puzzler and starts being an adventure game? Where’s the cutoff?)

I have a question - if Earth would get launched outside the solar system and became a rogue planet... would it be possible that humanity (given preparation time) could survive using geothermal energy to get light/heat/crops/water? And if so, for how long could humans survive - would there be a limit, or could it work perpetually?

yurp, could work.

It would take a LOT of preparation, and a good amount of advancement in technology because while geothermal energy is 24/7, it is also very slow to convert to usable forms. Best bet would be to move underground to provide some insulation as the surface without the sun will eventually level out to around -400 F. We can make insulation for that but even the best insulation would still need heating which requires energy. Although, it will take a while to get there. After about a year we’ll reach -100 and will take longer to level out at -400.

Also, unless you struck the perfect balance of plants/animals and had them all in one massive room, you’ll need oxygen. And while during the beginning you’d be fine with getting oxygen from the atmosphere, and given the smaller population you’d have to have to maintain this system you could get oxygen from the atmosphere for a good while, oxygen does have a freezing point of -360ish F. Which means it will eventually become solid and turn into ‘oxygen snow’. This would have to be scooped up and collected.

Though given the technology to achieve all this, I’m guessing there could be an efficient way of turning CO2 into oxygen invented without the use of plants which are fairly slow. Or just set up a fuck ton of algae tubes all over the place. 

Theoretically the earths internal energy would run out in a few billion years, but by that time we could probably invent ways of getting energy from other sources, such as the movement of people/animals or ocean stuff (the ocean would mostly freeze but way way down there would still be liquid water.) Energy would still slowly leak out and there wouldn’t be much of a way to replace it, but it would take a Long ass time. 

So basically, would take a lot of prep and a lot of new inventions and the population would have to be a lot smaller, but it is possible

Uh, what is this dude on about? Even if I buy a movie, I still can't post footage of it online aside from limits decided by the company. The same is with games, it's just that game companies have been usually pretty lenient on game footage but has nothing to do with ownership of the product - just ownership of the rights.

Speaking of Joss Whedon - I was reading his comics from the time he was the writer on Astonishing X-Men. And something was bugging me until I realized - he seems to be completely incapable of writing a dialogue that isn't a one-liner, 'badass' long speech, or set-up for one of the above. I mean, I think that's less visible in a 2 hour movie, but binge-reading 24 issues in a row made it kind of obvious. He has no idea how to write dialogue that sounds like something humans would say, period.

Imo, I believe we should normalize calling people homophobic/racist etc. By which I mean, currently when people are called those, they treat it personally and get defensive, rather than trying to examine those behavior. They're treated as an insult or a swearword, which makes having any nuanced conversation about these behaviors hard.

You’re exactly right. They treat it like you’re calling them a bad name, or being rude to them, when you’re literally just calling their behaviour what it is. It’s like being called homophobic etc. is actually worse, to them, than actually being homophobic. They don’t want to APPEAR bigoted, they just want to BE bigoted without facing any consequences.

The consequences, of course, are being called out on their behaviour.

I vehemently oppose the idea that we should give bigots any kind of ‘safe space’ where they can say bigoted things without being called a bigot, even for the sake of discussion or changing their mind.
