There is a blog called genretvforall you may want to check out. It lists shows based on the presence of queer and PoC characters and also tries to warn of any problematic issues. Submissions are made by fans but it seems to be a pretty good blog.

Seems legit. I might bookmark it to check out now and then. I don't think I can follow it though, because I saw spoilers on the first page about Lost Girl! (I'm on season 1)

Y'all should definitely take a look, it seems very useful if you're interested in representation: "Aiming to be a comprehensive listing of science fiction, fantasy, horror, and superhero live action television shows featuring female, person of color, LGBQA+ , trans/nonbinary, and disabled characters as leads or part of the main ensemble cast."

Exciting news! We're starting a podcast series to discuss the same topics you see on our blog in a more free flowing format. We hope you'll give it a listen and tune in again next week!

In the first of GenreTvForAll's podcast series, hosts Jessi, Emma, and AJ discuss current news and controversies surrounding sci fi/fantasy/horror genre shows and issues of representation. This week they talk about casting announcements for fall shows and lament the straightwashing of Constantine (@2:27). They go in depth to cover Halle Berry's new sci fi show, Extant (@31:43). Finally, they close with a discussion of what other genre shows they're each watching this summer (@1:00:28).

Well there’s a whole world out there full of creatures! Cultures, traditions, mythologies of an entire world are just waiting to be harvested for cheap monster fodder! bring on the Wendigo, call in the Kitsune, dig up your Ghouls and season it all with some random deities to complete the picture - originality awaits! Sadly, that description isn’t even all that snarky - it’s accurate. Non-western mythologies are mined for random shiny creatures without any real attempt to delve into the mythology or legends behind them or any inclusion for the actual people from those cultures. The creature is there literally to be something shiny and new with no attempt to even get a decent representation of the creature, let alone the cultural context it comes from.

Well-written characters in geek properties will succeed with audiences regardless of gender, or color for that matter--women are far from the only group being marginalized by the geek mainstream. Female characters or characters of color may even do better when they represent something new and original. Maybe not that new and original, though. Like I said at the top, Buffy ended over 10 years ago. So then why does Orphan Black still feel so rare?

We've gotten so much done on Genre Television For the Rest Of Us in the past two days!

Besides adding lots more shows, we also added tags for race, and added in specific racial/ethnic heritage for characters played by PoC in the other notes section of individual posts. That way it's even easier to search for what you're looking for.

We also have a resources page for media criticism, and activism, surrounding under-represented groups in the media. It's still just a little baby list, but it's got some great links, and we're always interested in more!

So if you haven't checked the blog out yet, you totally should. It's really awesome, and I'm super proud of it.
