"now don't get too wild on us tonight." there's a smile on dana's lips as she offers one of the glasses in her hands to victoria. she'll keep an eye on her in any case, as she undoubtedly will most of the younger staff that work under her. just in case. it's a habit she still hasn't worked out how to kick best her best efforts. "can't have you not trying the super punch though. just if your mother asks, it wasn't me who got you onto it." she's got her own that she's ready to down to ease when she'll have to inevitably face someone she doesn't want to. like someone on the board. "you come find me if you need anything tonight, alright? a open bar and medical staff? it's gonna get messy."

the moment that it clicks into place is apparent on lucy's face. the er was always busy so it wasn't exactly out of place when there were additional bodies floating around the place. perhaps she should have realised that the additional bodies weren't helping to get through patients any faster or that they never did seem to be talking to or treating any patients.

however, in the rush of everything that lucy has to do and keeping up with carter, perhaps it's forgiving that she's missed a detail like that. "i didn't..."

she lowers her sandwich, self consciously looking back over her shoulder at the person she now realises isn't just another member of hospital staff. "god, you must think i'm stupid or something. the fact that i didn't realise..." realise that she had been working alongside the president's daughter all week. realise that there were what were now blatantly obvious security following ellie around wherever she went. realise that she had her head buried in the sand that deeply. "i mean, it doesn't change anything, does it? you're still you and i'm still me. we just know a little more about each other, right?"

dana had a feeling about these sorts of things. she couldn't always tell why the inkling came over her, why she got a bad vibe, or how she could tell. she just could. seeing baran with a deep stare out into space gave dana that feeling, which made the charge nurse excuse herself from a conversation with perlah and step up to the doctor, placing a hesitant hand on her elbow. 'you look like you've seen a ghost, doc,' tone was lighthearted, but the hint of concern was unmistakable. 'why don't we go get some water from th'break room, huh? i'll go with,' @gentlyrepose.

"i never said you didn't." residents and nurses alike scatter from the trauma room now the panic is over. it's not often these days that dana's gloved and gowned up, but she has been at least for the last few minutes. ripping the gloves off, the gown quickly follows as she shoves both in the bin in the corner of the room.

turning back to face baran, she brushes back a loose strand of blonde hair that had fallen out of place while she had been working. "doesn't mean you didn't need help. contrary to popular belief, i have been doing this for awhile."

the message had sent a chill down alex's spine when she had read what her dad had sent. it's not that it hasn't happened before, but it hasn't felt like this. the moment she had received the message, she'd picked up the phone to call her dad and it's obvious that he's intentionally being quiet. there's a click of a door in the background before he reveals more of what had happened.

when alex pulls up in drive of the all too familiar house, it's as if she knows she's walking into something different. only she can't place exactly what it is. getting out of the car, she lets herself inside, calling out to let her parents know she's there. wandering down the hall, it's not long before she sees her mom and there's something in alex's chest that flips when she sees the bruising under her left eye.

it's like she blinks and she's engulfed in familiar arms. the arms that have held her more times in her life than she could possibly count. it's only after a few moment, after alex has buried her face in her mom's shoulder that she remembers. pulling back, not too far, just enough to meet her mom's eyes, she's shaking her head as she looks at the woman who had raised her. "what are you doing, mom?" a hand comes up to gently cup her mom's cheek, the opposite one to where the bruising is. just in case. she doesn't want to hurt her. "i'm here to look after you. it's my turn this time."

𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐛𝐞𝐭  𝐰𝐞𝐧𝐭  𝐮𝐩  on  the  board  the  moment  someone  realized  it  was  a  full  moon.  not  just  any  full  moon  —  one  of  those  massive,  glowing,  suspiciously  cinematic  ones  that  hung  low  over  the  hospital  parking  lot  like  it  was  personally  plotting  something.  robby  stood  back,  arms  crossed,  studying  the  board  like  it  was  a  tactical  map.  dana  watched  him  scribble  his  entry.  ❝  tell  me  again  how  you  plan  on  winning  with  that  strategy.  ❞  he  capped  the  marker  with  a  soft  click  and  stepped  aside  so  she  could  admire  it.
