it’s not that it’s not a parallel at all it’s just an extremely minuscule, vague one that when placed on comparison to other massive clearly intentional ones and when looked at in the context of two enormously different situations is hardly comparable. but a portion of the fandom has decided it’s the only one that a) exists b) matters. to support their own point of view.
okay, first of all, no one is saying that it’s the only parallel that exists or that matters. but it is one that many people seem to be ignoring, so yes, it’s one that deserves to be pointed out! and also - ‘to support their own point of view’ - look, i don’t see the parallel because it fits my interpretation of the show, i interpret the show in the way i do because of the parallel.
also, i think that calling it ‘extremely minuscule, vague’ is quite frankly ridiculous.
peter ashe: decides that thomas’ plan is too dangerous, and sends thomas to the plantation as an alternative to death. he does it to protect his daughter, who then condemns his actions. he justifies himself by saying “this is not what i wanted”. he knows that thomas is alive but doesn’t tell james, and actually tries to kill him
silver: decides that james’ plan is too dangerous, sends james to the plantation as an alternative to death (and leaves thomas there). he does it to protect madi, who then condemns his actions. he justifies himself by saying “this is not what i wanted”. he knows that thomas is alive but doesn’t tell james (until it suits his purposes to do so), and actually tries to kill him
it’s tragic, and it’s heartbreaking, and it is very much an intended parallel, and to disregard it as something insignificant just doesn’t make much sense to me. what happened, happened
