I keep seeing all the mass displaced mayhem fics and keep thinking “huh Geomotus would LOVE this!”

Geomotus: you’re saying I can be tiny? I can run and hide in a rock pile and not even the caretakers can find me because I’m small as frag? No awkward interacting with others because they can’t find me? SIGN ME UP!

Geomotus x Reader

• Glancing over your shoulder at the little mech toddling after you, arms slightly out from his frame as he follows you through the tall grass, you smile faintly. Because this size? He’s stinking adorable. Even if he still won’t allow you to carry him, uncomfortable with being touched. “Ta da. Rocks,” you say, gesturing at the water and the river worn stones. And he’s walking past you, peds dipping into water you’re pretty sure is ice cold. “Careful,” you mumble, hoping you won’t have to go in after him if he falls in.

• “Mostly sedimentary,” he mutters, bending to pick one up, servos tracing over the smooth surface. “Limestone. Ah, granite,” he adds, bending to pick up another and he holds it up in the sun. Doubts they’ll look like much when they’re dry, but they’re lovely when still wet. Glancing over at you as you tip your face up toward the sun, he clears his vents. Doubting you’re interested. Most aren’t. And you look more alien than normal limned in sunlight. Almost fragile.

• Reaching into your backpack, you pull out the little plastic bag of colorful rocks that came in the rock tumbling refill kit, genuine gemstones guaranteed, that you found and you ease down to sit by where your tiny assigned mech is digging in the shallows of the river. And his head turns to look questioningly up at you making you wonder if he wouldn’t prefer you to leave him alone. Has to realize how vulnerable he is this size, though. Or maybe he really doesn’t. Seems to be in his own world most of the time.

• “I have something for you,” you call out and he rumbles, bending to pick up another stone with a fossil inclusion. And you lean to dump out a little pile of colorful rocks. Curious, he wades out of the shallow water to see what you have. “I saw these and thought you might like them,” you say, one shoulder lifting in a shrug as he crouches and begins sorting through the pile. Surprised you’d bothered at all to bring him a gift. Are you friends now? He’s not really sure. Not really good at this sort of thing.

• “Wet this one,” he says, holding it up and you blink. Because he never asks you to do anything. Except not to touch him directly. Reaching and careful to not brush his servos with your fingers, you take the dull purple and white rock. Scooting close to the water, you lean and dunk the stone. Before holding it up in the light. “Banded amethyst,” he murmurs as you turn it over. ‘It’s pretty,’ you say, surprised. “Yes,” he agrees but when you look over at him, he’s staring at you not the rock, head tipped slightly before he resumes digging through the pile and telling you about them.

Neurodivergence in Transformers

Did you know Inferno from Beast Wars might technically be the first neurodivergent Transformer?

Neurodivergent: differing in mental or neurological function from what is considered typical (neurotypical)

Geomotus is called "one of the first openly neurodivergent Cybertronians" by IDW Publishing’s Editor-in-Chief John Barber. 

But I realized I don't know what they mean by first openly neurodivergent.

In Beast Wars, Inferno's fire ant beast mode instincts completely overwhelmed his logic circuits after scanning. His neurological functions are canonically different from typical Predacons and Maximals. That's neurodivergence by definition (differing mental/neurological function from typical).

In Transformers Animated lore, according to Transformers Animated: The AllSpark Almanac, Blackarachnia experimented on Blitzwing, rebuilding him into a triple changer and making him mentally unstable, causing Blitzwing to have three personalities. This would be an example of acquired neurodivergence similar to Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder).

In IDW, Shockwave was taken to the Institute and subjected to "Shadowplay", the emotion centers of his brain cut out by mnemosurgery. This would be another example of acquired neurodivergence.

There's a few other characters who could be argued to be allegories or be neurodivergent-coded (Beast War's Transmutate, Transformers Animated Ratchet, IDW's Rung, Froid, First Aid, Riptide)

So what does Geomotus being "openly neurodivergent" mean?

Does that mean he's open about his different neurological functions? 

He's explicitly written with traits like social cue struggles, bluntness, withdrawal in unfamiliar situations, and reliance on 'shapes' for self-soothing.

Does it just mean he works to help manage his condition openly? 

He's aware/manages it openly (therapy, accommodations, tools)

Does it mean that Hasbro openly considers Geomotus to be neurodivergent?

He's written as the first intentional, explicit representation of neurodivergence.

I guess technically "one of the first" could mean just one of the few neurodivergents Cybertronians. 

I don't have anything against Geomotus. I like him and think he's good neurodiversity representation. But I think there could be an argument there's been more neurodivergent Cybertronians than most people would think.

I just think a better phrase would be "the first officially confirmed neurodivergent Cybertronian"

Pride flags from Transformers day 6 - Aroallo and Aromantic/Geomotus

Transformers are so freaking lucky, they can feasibly do actual geological lab stuff. On account of living a long time. They can probably handle proximity to lava and other pyroclastic flows so hazards are minimal. I think they just got to be careful not to fracture some rocks. They come inbuilt with sensors too.

But I'm also thinking, Cybertron is a metallic planet, usually the body of Primus. It's not the same telluric geology we have on earth. Tectonic limits would equate to transformation seams. Is there a molten outer core to form a magnetic field over their planet? Maybe 'mountains' can form on regular Cybertronian bodies with enough force but are usually fixed by doctors. How linked are geology, biology and theology on Cybertron?

I'm just rambling.

STUDIO SERIES 80 Deluxe Brawn

We're finally onto posting things I bought after TFNation last year. And this is a guy I couldn't find (complete at least) in the dealer hall two years running! This diminutive, chunky guy with his round head passes the squint test and joins my collection as Geomotus.
