I think one of the things that makes me hate George Bell so much is that he gives the illusion of caring for Silas. Maybe he does, maybe he did. Gifted his brother clothes that were right, taught him about medicine. Told him that someone like him existed, did the things he wants to. Called him by his name. and yet-

and yet. He still called him a sick girl. Still said Silas was imagining things, despite Knowing- HE KNEW HE KNEW WHAT THEY WERE DOING WHAT THEYD DO TO HIS BROTHER IF THEY COULD WHAT THEY ALMOST DID WHAT HE ALMOST DID- he still told Silas he wouldn't help. That it wasn't real. That Silas wasn't real, all while using his name anyway,

He almost tore his brother apart. And for what? For wanting to save people? for wanting to be himself? for knowing this was wrong?

George also knew it was wrong. Said he wouldn't do it. And yet

and yet

even if he couldn't understand. Even if he never truly saw a brother. How could he do any of this to someone he claimed he care for? to his supposed sister?

would he have let them vivisect his wife too? Does he pretend to care for her too while knowing hed throw her to a wolf to save himself?

The girls call Louise a coward, but she snuck to send Daphne the letters. She jumped at Charlotte and tried to fight back.

George didn't even stay around long enough to get what he deserved.

The betrayal is far more personal than the people who never pretended to be kind

Which TSBIT character is most interesting to you?

Because the poll can only have a maximum of twelve options and two of those have to be used for "other" and "I don't know/results", this poll only includes 10 characters. I tried to pick the ones with the most narrative relevance, but that's kind of hard to determine and it means that so many amazing characters don't fit in here. So if your fave, isn't here, that's why. I wish I could add more options also, more of these characters deserve a place here.

So, who's the TSBIT character you personally find most interesting? Please tell me, especially if it's someone I couldn't include here. I personally waver between Silas and Louise. I currently lean towards the latter, but that might be different next week. I love that Louise is so much more than she seems at first and that we still don't quite know what she thinks and feels at the end. I really really like the scene where she tells Silas about the dead Braxton's students after Isabella is taken away, it shows how deeply she cares for those around her and might hint at a sense of guilt that she watched these people disappear without doing anything to try to save them out of fear, which could be part of what later inspires her to finally act. (Also Louise Hare Does Not Want To Be Found from the TSBIT post-canon series by Mortonmurphy on Ao3 really strengthened my love for that character. I strongly recommend it and the whole series.)

The AJW work the next poll will be about will be determined by chance, I'm putting paper scraps with the titles of all currently out AJW works in a box, shaking it and randomly picking one.

Also this poll not having as many characters as I would like (I'm so sorry to Frances, Agnes and Ellen in particular) made me things that a favorite AJW character tournament would maybe be a good idea, but I'm too lazy to do it, so if somebody else thinks it would be cool, please feel free to do it.
