Why do you consider George Meade a good officer?

Not attacking entrenched positions with a direct assault is a good idea. While Meade had faults, most notably in the Crater, he in general was quite competent. And I always have sympathy for people who fight against press wrongdoing.

There's a letter that Abe Lincoln wrote scolding George Meade for not advancing hard enough after the battle of Gettysburg but he never sent it because he knew it would be of no use to scold him after the fact and would only hurt morale in the army.

I'm no Abe Lincoln. Send the letter telling people how mad you are at them.
