TIL the author of Hajime no Ippo opened up an actual boxing gym based off Kamogawa Boxing gym from the manga.
Even has Takamura’s statue on top. It’s also not just a tourist trap. It’s a real gym with a real training staff and real professionally trained boxers.
Ippo and Berserk became two of my favorite works of all time over the last few years. When I learned Miura was basically a young boy for Morikawa on Ippo, my mind wasn’t super blown because I saw so many similarities between them. Anyway, it’s Miura’s bday, so RIP to the GOAT.

Wow, Hajime no Ippo's creator George Morikawa honors Oh!great's 30th anniversary by drawing his own characters with traits from Oh!great's various manga, which includes Bakemonogatari, Tenjou Tenge, and Air Gear!! Miyata as Araragi is such a wild crossover
Oh!great was so happy it made him cry. He also revealed that he first read Morikawa's Hajime no Ippo when he found it at a laundromat 35 years ago. They both thanked the person who left it in jest
