I feel like this is a pretty important thing to say because even though I don't post extremely often (mainly because I've been and still am sick or just generally busy... my main blog has been reduced to memes until I can catch a break) I still read every single post and I read ever single reply. A lot of people who reply to us are assholes. Like, super dickish people. And I try to keep my comparing of people to butt holes and dicks on my own blog, but this is ridiculous. Like we, but mainly Mixed and Bnei-Anusim Mod, find posts usually in tags and reply to those with their opinions. Something that every person on this site does. Usually they are saying how something can be taken wrong or is harmful, but other times they are expressing how they don't get how something is bad or they are simply sharing their side on said problem. The amount of crap we get for that is astronomical. In the past few days, Mixed mod and myself have been called racial slurs to say that we are anti black. Bnei-Anusim mod literally got called one of the most used antisemitic slurs out there for saying that one thing wasn't cultural appropriation (while saying that multiple things were and showing people of that ethnicity who agreed!) We've had chronic illnesses erased, gotten hate mail, and people saying that we harass minority bloggers for nothing. A mod with illnesses that knows how others who share it could be affected by poking fun at their tendencies? Ablesplaining, apparently. Black mods saying that you shouldn't hate on black KIDS who want to go to a dance with someone outside their race? Anti black racists who conform to Eurocentrism. Not finding a problem with a drawing that done with a light palatte having a lighter looking character? Literally the devil. Like the people who hate on us love to talk about how harmful we are but look at us. We are all ethnic minorities, me and mixed mod (and a few less active mods) are literally minors, I'm trans and gay and a good chunk of our other mods are also LGBT+ in some way or another, at least 2 of our mods are disabled in some way or another, and we aren't even that popular tbh. We have maybe 500 followers, an incredibly low pull in any online community, and post maybe 2 times a day if someone isn't arguing. If you truly cared about 'minority bloggers' you would accept that some don't share your opinions and maybe not criminalize them for thinking differently. Sorry if this is an odd question, but I couldn't think of anywhere else to ask... My friend suffers from chronic nightmares. I want to make them a dream catcher (at the very least as a gesture of friendship regardless of whether or not they work, though I will say I have had one for years and don't get many nightmares), but I'm worried about it being cultural appropriation, or doing it wrong. Is it ok for me to do this? If not, do you know of any other spiritual anti-nightmare things?

It’s fine for you to make a dream catcher dude. They aren’t appropriating. Appropriating a culture would be taking something from the culture and actually altering or somehow messing with the original meaning. Helping out your friend? That’s not messing with the meaning of dream catcher in any way. You do it, nonny.

I'm not a fan of the man bun but I don't hate it. I like long hair on guys best when it's loose (although the guy I'm seeing looked damn good with a short, poofy ponytail; he had long, curly black hair before he cut it off).

I'm a white girl. I have been seeing on a non-white dude (mixed with two things, neither of which are white). He's just awesome (and hot). I don't decide to date people based on race. But Tumblr makes me feel bad about liking this dude, and I'm almost afraid to show a picture or even mention his first name on here. It sucks because I'd love to show him off and Tumblr makes that seem like it's fetishizing or a bad thing when it would just be like "Look at this awesome sexy dude I'm seeing."

Harassment, Stalking, or just responding- what’s the difference?

What’s up my dudes! Now as most of you guys know,I also deal with social justice junk and other stuff on my half political but practically a personal blog @educatingtheotherkin. As you might not know unless you actually follow me or if you are pretty good with random Georgia Mod trivia, I have been dealing with a pretty heavy case of stalking and just overall harassment there by a “social justice” blog. This has been going on for about 2-3 months and caused me to take a minor break to try to take my mind off of it back in December, because I have a lot of really messy mental stuff going on that is waiting to be evaluated and overall checked out. But that’s not the focus of this post. The reason I am making this is because my- well I wouldn’t say abuser exactly but they were definitely cutting it close- has tried to twist my words time and time again to make me seem unreasonable for what I was upset about.

So here is the deal with harassment. If the person tells you to leave them alone, leave them alone. Having the last word doesn’t make you a winner, and any continued interactions are considered harassment. Another thing is if the person you keep contacting says you are harassing them, you are probably harassing them, or at the very least making them feel uncomfortable. Either way, backing off at this point and cutting your losses would be best. Under no circumstances should you try to mock them for feeling uncomfortable or say that you weren’t “really harassing them. You can’t police how your words made someone else feel.

Also, if you finally get around to making an apology, don’t delete it to save face. A finicky apology is worse than no apology.

Now while you shouldn’t police how your words make someone else feel, you also shouldn’t take and criticism as harassment. That will end in what is called an echo chamber, which means no new ideas or ways of thinking will be introduced to you and you will end up nowhere. So responses that you disagree with should be talked out so that both sides can share their viewpoint. If you make a post and tag it with multiple tags, someone coming from that tag and reblogging from you is not harassment. It’s a big part of how to be a social justice or political blog. 

Responding to a post really isn’t harassment in and of itself. In order for it to be such, the person would have had to ask you to stop talking to them or have outright said you were harassing them. At this point, any responses are deemed harassment. 

Now stalking. Stalking is pretty hard to prove without any sort of tracker on your blog, unless the person has reblogged multiple posts from you or has reblogged something from a while ago that wasn’t an original tagged post. If you do have a tracker, you would have to actually pay attention to where the people were going before you can deem it harassment. One of the easier ways is if you see them going through your blog for hours through the same pages multiple times. In my case, they were going through my FAQ and my tag for them (because they had been THAT confrontational that without a tag for someone to blacklist some of my followers would have had anxiety attacks). Pretty obvious things, but other signs would be someone going through your tags for things you rarely speak about, or just going through page after page to complain about things you have said for any time over 3 hours. You know, basic things that would make you extremely uncomfortable if they were happening in real life.

But the biggest question is if you are dealing with someone like this, what should you do? Not stoop to their level. If you have the tracker, you likely have a good general location for where this person lives, what their IP is, and loads of other stuff. You might be tempted to do something with this, but I implore you, don’t. You should report them, keep an archive of sorts of what they did, but don’t go and be terrible to them. By all means warn people about their abusiveness, but don’t go and harass them or their followers. Now I know a good chunk of you dudes are going to go over to my blog and see what the hell I am talking about, and I think you should because you need to be aware or tell me if I’m reading in to things too much, but don’t decide to harass @silentgreyghost. You can ask for their side of things, but try to refrain from just sending mindless hate. I hope this cleared up some of these terms that get thrown around willy nilly, and I hope that you guys can internet in a nicer, less dickish manner.
