“director’s commentary” for 'my heart knows your name' please !

oh man, the whole fic? okay !!

this one came from a prompt by @ikeracity for a holiday challenge, basically asking for a situation where charles and erik get together bc of an injury or illness near the holidays.

i LOVE h/c but i wasn't keen on doing a getting together fic, i wanted there to be some history there that would make one of them rush to the other's side. so the idea started with them being exes who got back together instead of a new couple.

my mind immediately went to a car crash, and i've been working on a different AU where charles is a doctor (not quite working out lol), so "doctor charles" was already a character to me and that led me to erik seeing charles again in the ER while he's working.

i love this fic tbh, i wish it got a bit more traction, but that's okay! i really love their relationship and i love that erik's a dad. i like that charles's drinking got in the way before. (i had just re-read 'August' by Red for like the 900th time too, which has a line i often go back to abt charles's drinking impacting their marriage at some point, so i also wanted to slide that in.) i do think it's a teeny bit rushed bc i was trying to make the challenge deadline -- but also, pretty much all of the ideas i had made it onto the page.

anyways! i think my favorite bit is the beginning with charles knocking his head against the wall freaking out to sam. the sam cameo in general was fun, tbh. but this one does have a special place in my heart, and other than my current WIP it's the only AU i've published <3

Beard!Charles exists in the comics right now because the baddies came and destroyed their mutant paradise island and this is his 'I've finally gone over the edge' look. Also, depending on which comic and who is drawing him he has a blond beard or a salt and pepper one lol (apparently he was blond as a child which I did not know until very recently :D).

Ah, a Beard of Sorrow! I wonder how Erik likes it?

General thoughts about the state of superhero movies at the moment? :D

Well, a hot take it ain’t, but they have a problem, and the problem is not superhero movies in specific, it’s the movie industry. It’s the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Churning, it’s the promise of Batman: More, and Captain America: Plodding New Content.

Throw the entire cinematic universes out the window, slash the budgets, let filmmakers make movies again. If some of them are about superheroes, even specific superheroes for the nth time, great (Spiderverse)! But the endless sludge of AI-generated IStandForNothingMan 256B is just exhausting, and that’s even when you just watch the gifs on Tumblr.

At least WttP is a hundred times better than The Counselor, lol. Even Peak Hotness Fassy couldn’t save that one.

oh my goddddd OKAY so my erik/shaw wip is a gift fic that I will SOMEDAY write for a friend. it. it’s not good. it’s bad. it’s very very bad in very very many ways.

“S-Sir?” Erik's voice shook out of his chest. His throat was dry as he watched Sebastian watch him. His eyes felt heavy.

Sebastian smiled at him, but it wasn’t the nice smile Erik got sometimes. Erik loved Sebastian’s nice smile, because it always made his chest feel full and fluttery. “You want to be a good boy for me, don’t you, Erik?” 

It wasn’t a question. Sometimes things were questions and sometimes they weren’t, and Erik had gotten really good over the years at knowing what each type sounded like. “Yes,” he still said, firmly, adding, “Yes, sir,” to be safe. 

Sebatstian’s smile went kinder. There was still an edge to his grin, but there was a softness around his eyes, now. Erik had always loved that softness. “Very good, Erik.” The praise made him shiver. It always made him shiver. “And what do good boys do?”

Oh, Erik knew the answer to that one. “They listen,” he said readily, a smile on his face until he remembered why Sebastian was making sure he still knew the rules. 

Sebastian had asked... he had asked...

“That’s right, very good,” Sebastian told him, and pulled Erik from his thoughts. “Are you going to be a good boy and listen to me, Erik?”

Erik sucked in a sharp breath and held it behind his teeth. His heart was racing very fast. He knew what he had to answer correctly. If he didn’t answer correctly, Sebastian would punish him. Neither of them liked when Erik had to be punished, but especially Erik, he thought. He took a very deep breath and felt his hands shaking. 

“Y-Yes, sir.”
