the things i would do for an xmen show that's allowed have 20 ep seasons and spend time on sidequests and 'filler' eps and interpersonal drama that isnt' mcu level of sensationalized.
yes i KNOW that means the budget for things like sets, effects, etc would be lowered - i do not care and, if it's a well written/portrayed/produced show, most xmen fans I doubt would care either. like come on, a shitty cgi snake monster in the btvs s3 finale did not take me out of the literal and emotional stakes of that fight, the smoke monster having awful effects for the first 2 seasons in lost did not make me any less intrigued, i've seen countless short/student films that were working on a budget of like 2 cents that had obviously scrapped together costumes and it didn't take me out of the world.
xmen is a campy, emotional, chaotic whirlwind of a world and I WANT to see that. It's part of what makes the best parts of '97 SO great, it's the most engaging parts of the movieverse, and it's part of what makes it feel like it comes from a comic (which, lest the mcu fool you, marvel is comics). part of why I adore theatre is because every actor i've worked with or heard speak is interested in digging their metaphorical claws into every aspect of their characters - that's what the xmen needs and that can be facilitated by a well written show for them.
i want to be able to be optimistic so so badly and i AM excited about certain casting choices for the mcu xmen, but the mcu seems - as of now, at least - unwilling to follow the xmen to the places they need to go to make a truly great xmen story. I want to be excited, I want to see things to be excited about, and i want to trust that it's gonna be hard to let me down
in conclusion, i want 20 ep per season for a multi-season xmen show. please. kindly. :)
