After everything that happened in S8 Ep7, I went back and looked at the Fergus scenes in Book 9 and I noticed a few things:
1. The line about Fergus wanting to rather be killed for something that matters is in the book, but is said to Roger instead of Jamie. Fergus sounds very… causal when he says it, and even Bree notices that and thinks that Marsali looks more concerned about the danger.
2. Fergus’ reunion with Germain is so sweet. He immediately embraces his son, cries with joy and calls Germain his son and his baby. “I see you are a man now, and yet when I look at you—always, always—I see you as I first saw you.” Fergus is such a great dad. 🥺
3. Fergus is really so cool in the book… we see him confront Percy and bluntly tell him to fuck off while saying that he’s already the son of a great man. And his response to the fire in the printshop that could’ve killed his family is to go out and tell the whole street exactly what happens and what he intends to do to the people who had attacked his family and his livelihood, to see if anyone present knew anything about the attack. I love how clever he is. And near the end of the book he shoots the two men who invaded the printshop with a gun that was a special two barrelled canon.
4. Fergus and Marsali actually send all of their kids except the twin babies to the Ridge because it’s getting too dangerous for them to stay in the printshop. The letter the kids bring with them and Fanny’s recounting of what Germain told her about the incident that caused Fergus and Marsali to send the kids away (and Claire’s reaction to it) feel very ominous and makes me wonder if perhaps Fergus will die in book 10 after all. “I cannot leave undone the Work of Freedom to which I am called…”
Wednesday 100: Sword and Shield
"Young man," Claire says as Germain attacks the bushes with a stick. "This isn't the help collecting herbs you promised."
"This part comes first," he says confidently, swinging harder.
"And what is this?"
"Chasing away snakes, Grandmama." He is thankfully too distracted to look incredulous at her obtuseness, or to see her swallow. "I shall keep them away so Grandpère can never be hurt again. He would do so for me, and would want me to keep you safe too."
Shallowly, she says, "Well. Carry on, then," an ache in her chest as she watches this young protector of theirs.
Wednesday 100: His Father and Mine
this was written for the Beside the Seaside universe, but could just as easily be a canon-compliant or canon-divergent drabble as well 🥰
“Have ye thought of any middle names?”
Jamie’s voice was barely above a whisper, so as not to disturb the baby in Claire’s arms, introduced to them as Germain Fraser. Of course it was middle names — Claire couldn’t help the smile that came with the thought.
“Alexander Claudel,” Fergus said readily, softly. “Claudel for his father, and Alexander for mine.”
She looked up from the baby to see Jamie’s throat bob, his gaze turn glassy, and then she couldn’t see much else for the tears in her own eyes but felt his fingers lace through hers over Germain’s tiny frame.
Hey gotham, i was wondering are we gonna see Germain this season since in the books he stays with Claire and Jamie or am i confusing myself??
Perhaps in 7B, when Claire returns to North Carolina at Marsali's request! But rest assured he will definitely feature strongly next season!
Happy Father’s Day!
Starting Young by @fergusandmarsali
“What’s the matter, Grandpère?” Germain asked, his eyes bright with excitement. “Are you in need of healing?” Without waiting for an answer he turned to Claire and asked, “What do we need? I will fetch it.”
“What’s this, then?”
Germain raised himself to full height - which wasn’t quite as impressive as he no doubt thought - and announced proudly, “I am Grandmère’s app-ren-tice.”
“Oh?” Jamie’s eyes rose to look at Claire. “Starting them young, Sassenach?”
- OR -
When Marsali is too ill to assist Claire in the surgery, Germain decides to become Grandmère’s newest apprentice and, while neither hurt nor ill, Grandpère is the very first patient he tends to. A fluffy one-shot set during early Season 5.

Written for @sicktember: I’m Not Sick (Day 9)
I know Bees hasn’t been received that well but man… little Germain is tearing my guts out. Poor child. 😭😭😭
I love Marsali so much!
