I have no idea why i’m thinking about it today of all days, but for some reason I’m inexplicably pissed at my college orchestra director as a freshman who gave me shit for playing double bass with a french bow and not german (For those who don’t know they have different styles of grip, a lot of bassists prefer german bow and that’s fine, I just prefer french). And I don’t mean, “you might want to think about changing bow types,” no it was, “get a german bow or you’re not going to play at all.” and then after changing to a bow I wasn’t familiar with and was slightly uncomfortable using, he kept getting mad that my bowing was off and so I wasn’t going to be playing in the next performance.
It’s been over half a decade but it still bothers me, you know
