Augusta of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (Born Princess Maria Luise Augusta Catherina of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach; 30 September 1811 – 7 January 1890), was Queen of Prussia and the first German Empress as the wife of William I, German Emperor.

Crown Princess Victoria “Vicky”, nee Princess Royal, holding her son, Waldemar, alongside her sister, Princess Alice of Hesse and by the Rhine, who is holding her son, Ernest Louis, in 1868. 

As Alice was having difficulty breastfeeding, Vicky helped nurse the baby, much to the horror of their mother, Queen Victoria. Both Waldemar and Alice would die of diphtheria in 1878.

born in Weimar, Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach, to Charles Frederick, Grand Duke of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach (1783-1853) and Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna of Russia (1786-1859)

married William I, German Emperor (1797-1888) on 11 June 1829

had two children: Frederick III, German Emperor (1831-1888) and Louise, Grand Duchess of Baden (1838-1923) 

died at the age of 78 in Berlin, German Empire
