The slope of the sandbar that formed the Surf Berlin wave was so gradual, for so long, that when a wave of considerable size was approaching, one could see its crest forming sometimes two minutes before it actually broke. Yet where it actually decided to eventually break was often far away from where it broke the time before. The Mystery Spot of surfing.
KIEL - BERLIN - COLOGNE - MUNICH
Surf culture is very much alive in Germany. With the help of Jens Steffenhagen and Bluemag El Mar, Mi Alma packed venues at surf movie nights throughout Germany in Kiel at Studio Kino, Berlin at Central Kino, Cologne at Cinenova Kino and Munich at Rio Filmpalast. Due to commitments elsewhere we weren't able to attend. Berlin, Cologne and Munich were all sold out shows.. awesome! Unfortunately no photographs were taken at the shows. We were honoured to receive such fabulous feedback from those who attended and wrote to us afterwards. Many thanks to all and a huge thanks to Jens and crew for putting on the shows and providing us an opportunity to share El Mar, Mi Alma with audiences across Germany. Danke schön!
HAMBURG - NORD\NORDWEST SURF SKATE FILM FEST A short flight from Santander to Frankfurt and a fast train northwards through the German countryside to Hamburg. Hamburg is the second largest city in Germany and the second largest port in Europe. Situated on the River Elbe, the North Sea is to the west and the Baltic Sea is to the east, where surfable waves may be had. Founded by surf journalist and Bluemag editor Jens Steffenhagen, Nord\Nordwest Surf Skate Film Fest took place at the Hamburger Botschaft in the St Pauli quarter between July 5th and 7th. The festival provides an upbeat interactive space for patrons to hangout and view a multitude of surf and skate films, shorts and artwork. The pumped up crowd savoured every moment including the cold pilseners. El Mar, Mi Alma picked up Best Film, stoked! Cheers Hamburg! Congratulations Jens and crew on a great festival!
