Top 5 Julio Claudian family members?

This was very difficult because I tried to decide based on the actual real life people, or what we know of them, and not just the way thew were depicted in pseudo-historic works like I, Claudius. Loved to think about it.

Tiberius - Clinically depressed man who decends into cynicism after being deprived of all the joys in his life for something he didn't even really want. I feel like the debauchery that Tacitus and Sueton attributed to him was very contradictory to the character they had described before. I don't believe in him becoming a depraved hedonist. His bitterness is however quite dear to me. “I am nursing a viper in Rome's bosom,” ohohoho

Caligula - Similar as above, I don't think he was evil, I think he was just sick and that first century Rome couldn't provide the help he needed. However, the quote above also makes me wonder if there was some malice there already before his illness. + the fact that living with the man (and basically becoming his heir) who is rumoured to have killed your father and has been feuding with and exiling the rest of your family must have had some effect on him.

Livia - Not the villainess portrayed in most fiction, but still an unconventional woman who is said to have acted as the second hand to the at the time most important person in the known world.

Claudius - Even without Graves turning him into a poor little meow meow he still is a character I love. His family life is still fascinating without the murderous grandmother and the wolf falling from heaven. Cassius telling us of how Antonia referred to him as "a monster" and the fact she passed him to LIVIA for a few years already makes me want to read about them.

Arippina the elder - I love how independent and fierce she was. The way some historians write of her, even when they try to vilify her or when it reeks of misogyny is still almost admirable. And admittedly I do have a soft spot for her and Germanicus as a love story. However, on a more narrative sense she is so tragic and I think that's what really makes me adore her. She is said to have been like her mother in personality and look where that got her, Pandateria!

🔥 unpopular opinion on anything?

I'm counting this because I haven't seen anyone else say it, but one of the possible TV series set in Rome that I want to see is one about the Severan dynasty. I think that it would be really interesting to try and adapt them for a TV show.

Unpopular opinions on I Claudius either book or show?

My unpopular(?) opinion is that yes Julia was reckless in what she did. But she also was extremely smart to figure out what Livia was up to from so early on and with noone's help. Julia is underrated and this is a soapbox that I have been on for a while now.
