ich feier so hart gerade
7-1!!!!!
I was looking for 10 there. Come on Germany- pull your socks up!
Germany is making Brazil his little bitch in this match and I am enjoying every single moment of it.
Left work 3 hours early and made it home with 1 minute to spare for this game.
2002 World Cup Final, June 30, Yokohama, Japan.
Germany First XI: Oliver Kahn; Thomas Linke, Carsten Ramelow, Christoph Metzelder; Torsten Frings, Dietmar Hamann, Jens Jeremies, Marco Bode, Bernd Schneider; Miroslav Klose, Oliver Neuville
Substitutes: Oliver Bierhoff, Gerald Asamoah, Christian Ziege
Manager: Rudi Völler
Brasil First XI: Marcos; Lúcio, Edmílson, Roque Júnior; Cafu, Gilberto Silva, Kléberson, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho; Rivaldo, Ronaldo
Substitutes: Juninho, Denílson
Manager:Luiz Felipe Scolari
There are many parallels between today's semifinal and the 2002 final in Japan: Scolari, Klose, a collection of stars vs a team, strong German goalkeeping vs not-so-strong Brasilian goalkeeping, the underdogs missing key attacking players through injury and suspension etc etc.
Brasil won this match playing Scolari's 3-4-1-2, with a disciplined, hard-tackling defense and midfield that allowed his world-class front three to express themselves.
Here's how Sports Illustrated described that side in its WC2000 preview:
Brazil is, no matter its struggles since France '98, among the contenders for the trophy, which would be its fifth. It may not be reward enough to soothe millions of critics back home.
As always, there exists impeccable talent -- Ronaldo, finally past a horrendous string of injuries, plus Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho, Juninho Paulista, Denilson -- but the style and grace that long defined Brazilian soccer are gone. Coach Luis Felipe ("Big Phil") Scolari, the fourth coach in a muddy qualifying campaign, prefers futebol brucutu -- "bullyboy soccer" -- in which the object is to disrupt and destroy, foul and waste time. Midfielder Emerson Ferreira, a brutal tackler, is Scolari's ideal.
Sound familiar?
None of it bodes well for the Brasilians, who now find themselves in an almost identical position as the Germans of 2002. However, they have Brasil. And Germany doesn't have Ronaldo.
